Yes I think wind is definitely the main factor after making sure you're on a level pitch, away from trees and not in a flood prone area.

As at the end of the day camping is all about being flexible, so I think I will pitch tent bum into the wind and hope for the best view.

Then I can set the breakfast area up where ever the sun is rising. Just hope thats not the back end of the tent!

I prefer the sun on the front of the tent first thing in the morning because then the sleeping area is in the shade and I might get a little bit of a sleep in!

Nice when all three come together on a pitch....

But order of importance for me would be....
1) Level(ish) pitch....2) Back of tent to prevailing wind if possible....3) Door facing rising sun....

Only time I deviate from those three....Is if I have a beach front pitch.....Door faces the sea whatever the wind and sun are doing....

Have been lucky so far doing that despite some hard onshore breezes....

Last year on holiday I had 60+ mph winds to contend with...Could not pitch my main tent in that...But managed my wee two man tent....Back to the wind in the lee of a static caravan with my van behind the tent as well as added protection...Four days I had of that...And to tell the truth I'm glad I passed on the pleasure of a sea view on that occasion....

Jelboy.

OH laughs at me. I always, but always, have a compass in my pocket when we set up the tent. I stand there, get my little compass out work out which way the sun rises and sets. Then OH will point out that we can't pitch it the way I said because of x, y or z and we can't pitch it the other way because of x, y or z. So end up pitching it the way he said in the first place.... which is usually bum to the wind!

Last year, I pitched my tent, so the front door had sea views, which was silly as I would have had sea views any way, because of panoramic windows doh!
The tent was pitched side on to the wind, thankfully my tent poles are robust and strong, plus pàying some attention watching how much tension I had on the guys lines on either side of the tent. Lol

I went to a gorgeous site in Ireland and I had to pitch towards the sea view, big mistake the onshore wind filled my tent like a balloon and damaged the poles of my 40 year old canvas tent - thankfully fixable.

Don't forget the Ley lines of course...you must set your tent up according to the Ley lines.
