We were in France last June for the worst lightning storm to hit Paris in over 50 years - it lasted all night long with thunder , lightening , hailstorms you name it - I was terrified , didnt know if we shoudl make a run for it to the nearest hotel or what to do but kids slept through it all and not a bother on the tent ! Paris had the highest number of emergency calls for power cuts and flooding while we were just fine in our tent !

You lovely people set my mind at rest in terms of camping in a storm... but it's all gone pear-shaped now anyway.

I came down with a stinking cold mid-week, which I'm over now, but OH got a respiratory lergy and has been told not to sleep in a tent. My daughter's family and I were still planning to go, but then she rang this morning to say the little 'un has been awake all night coughing. In view of the weather outlook, it would be a recipe for disaster for either of the poorly ones to spend two days and nights sleeping in a wet field.

So we rang up this morning and cancelled. Gutted.

Quote: Originally posted by Mucker1884 on 10/6/2015This time last week, we had a weather warning for our target area for the Friday (Day of arrival/pitching). Thunder, lightening, and localised flash floods. The warning covered noon to 7pm.
We travelled in decent sunshine, with fluffy white clouds above. It was similar when we arrived on site, and remained so throughout the rest of the day. The site owner said they'd had "3 drops of rain" earlier that morning, then the sun came out and stayed out.
Admittedly, we were on the top edge of the affected "warning" area, being the whole of the South and East England. No idea whether the forecast was more accurate further down.

I can't remember the last complete weekend camp without any rain whatsoever, but that's what we got last weekend.

We, for two, are glad we ignored the forecast!

The warning was very accurate in Ipswich. We had massive storms one after the other from 8am until about 11am. Even had a power cut at work and the net got knocked out for a good couple of hours. Just goes to show how localised weather can be!

Well, I guess I was lucky.

...And you know what they say... "Lucky in camping, unlucky in love"!

Sorry to hear the latest, FoO, but maybe for the best, if the weekend's forecast proves accurate.
