Was off camping in Glencoe this past weekend...Arrived in glorious sunshine late afternoon....Pitched the tent and went for a meal in the pub...

Came out two hrs later to gusting winds and the storm clouds gathering above us....And had 40mph gusts and torrential rain all night and well into Saturday afternoon????

Jim Call and myself were fine as were our tents (Coleman Instant Tourer and Vango Halo)...But several others were not so fortunate....Buckled and bent poles ripped flysheets all round the campsite!!!!

Some folk just abandoned their tents and went home(Leaving their tents behind)One fella with his two young daughters had only attached one guyrope to his brand new tent....It stood up well to the storm...hardly any damage...But he just left it standing when he left????

Again torrential rain All Saturday night....But went off by the morning and we drove home in brilliant sunshine...

And despite everything we had a great(If all too short) W/end....

Jelboy.

We were camping at Breck Farm in North Norfolk, took the old tent which has tenacious tape all over it as its de laminating but it stayed up firm and we didn't get wet.... Took the old tent as they have campfires on site and didn't want to risk the new one getting a burn hole.

It was so loud, woke me up through my earplugs

We were at Badgells Wood Kent. Quite a thunderstorm out there and we were worried that our brand new bell tent will do some serious weathering. Nothing to fear. Not a single drip came into the tent. Hooray for bell tents :)

Was our first camp so we did wonder if this was what camping was about :p

Wasdale Head NT campsite. Pitched Friday afternoon in summer weather which progressed through evening winds to gusty gales then torrential rain as the night progressed. The thunder started in the wee small hours.

Only the second time out with my Airgo Stratus 4 and I'm pleased to say it didn't budge or leak. Sleep was an optional extra though ....

We were at portmadog right on the coast. Our kampa carbis managed the night perfect although hubby up on the hour every hour. I had horrendous earache just from the constant noise of the wind. The worst we've ever camped in.

I was at Waxham Sands right on the Norfolk Coast, got woken up by my dog trying to hide under my mattress! We were in a Hypercamp Eldorado and it was brilliant, didn't budge an inch, no ingress of water and as soon as my dog calmed down I was straight back to sleep! Felt very safe in the Eldorado with its many many guy lines.

We was camping in the storm in Barmouth North Wales in our hi gear Zenobia elite 6, heavy rain high winds and 3 thunderstorms passed us that night, our tent stood up to the high winds well even though as the wind got worse it did move a little bit but it kept us dry throughout the night, the only damage was 1 snapped guy rope which can easily be fixed

Second year running we've had a storm on Dads and Cubs camp. Last year we were in Southend and this year at our local Scout Camp near Ipswich. Akela and I sat for ages watching the lightening across the River Orwell and said "Oh it won't come to anything, it'll go out to sea".....

2am the campsite was awake, girls screaming that they wanted to go home (and that was mostly the older girls who are about to go up to Scouts), some of the dads got up to help calm the Cubs down. Akela thought he'd been shot at one point, one of the other female leaders got soaked.

4am everything was calm again until the sun came up and after about an hours sleep in total the dear Cubs were playing up merry hell. Nothing for up, I couldn't get back to sleep so got up, had a shower and put the kettle on. Nothing beats sitting up at Hallowtree Scout Camp with a mug of coffee looking across the River Orwell at 5am.

3 of our younger leaders emerged from their tent at 7.30am looking as fresh as daisies. "Storm? What storm?" they said.

All tents survied, just a few pegs needed banging back in.
