Noise does annoy me on a campsite but I think the real issue for me is how people manage it. If a family has kids and they are doing their best to keep them quiet I don't mind too much, after all I have a 9 year old myself and know it's not reasonable to expect younger kids to keep quiet all the time. We taught our daughter about camping voices from an early age but sometimes try as you might they are going to make a certain amount of noise, it's how you try and deal with it that counts, I lost count during the "terrible twos" when we had to leave a restaurant or cafe when our little one was playing up!

If a family is obviously trying to consider other people and trying to keep the noise down them I can accept when their kids play up, it's just as frustrating for the parents sometimes as the other people who are being disturbed by their kids!

The one thing that really gets me annoyed though is having to listen to other people's music. I really don't think it's necessary or acceptable to play music on a campsite that other people can hear, if you want you're music then you should use headphones!

I think if a site has a 'no music/noise after 11pm' rule then someone in charge should take the trouble to come round and enforce it, otherwise it's useless. Hats off to Serenity at Hinderwell for that; I heard the Warden politely but firmly telling the inhabitants of a caravan, just before 11pm, that they'd have to leave the following morning if they didn't quieten down; they quietened down promptly. I haven't had any post-11pm noise problems at Rynys either.

I think a lot of these people don't realise that the tent isn't too good at keeping noicse out, unlike a house! And the others are just out to be noticed!

Had a few nights camping with the let`s make a lot of noise brigade. Normally they only stay one or two nights then bugger off. I try to think that they are entitled to have a good time as much as everyone else whilst camping but they should at least keep the volume to a dull roar really.

Yes but those type of people tend not to give a sh at about others having a nice time.

We returned from a week in Somerset last Saturday - luckily we were fine until the last night. A large group pitched up together and were still shouting, screaming, laughing and playing very loud 90s Brit pop until midnight. They stopped once or twice (and got my hopes up!) but then restarted even louder. Completely inconsiderate.

Then the family next to us had their 3 year old go into a meltdown at 3am. Not just crying, I could hear things being kicked/thrown. As a mum of a 3 year old myself, I had sympathy until I heard his mum advising the family to ignore him and let him calm himself. All well and good in your own home or if it's daytime, but surely you should try and do something about it at 3am?! Needless to say, being a three year old, he didn't manage to calm himself down, worked himself into more of a frenzy and they eventually put him in their car at 3.40! I really enjoyed our 7 hour trip home the next day!

Sad to hear about the problems people are having. I must admit, in my (limited) experience, this seems like the norm rather than the exception - during the school holidays anyway.

I wonder if there are particular sites that attract "neds" that are usually responsible for the disruption? Are other countries e.g. France any better?
