I have camped 4 times actually 5, if you count New Yearthis year so far. the last one was fantastic weather. The previous, was a mixture.
All my tents are fibre glass poled. Never had any problems with any of them in extreme weather. You should expect some flexing, that's how they work. Too taut, they will snap and the fly sheet will rip. Never had a peg pull up either, even with wire pegs, which I used on my Vango Oregon 400. My second or third ever trip, was at Eisteddfa campsite, it blew a hoolie the first night and lashed down, first experience of extreme weather. Did research before going camping. One of the first advice I found, was to double peg, the pegs crossed each other ànd the peg driven into the ground, so it didn't twist. These were wired pegs. You know what, not one of those pegs pulled out, because of extreme weather. Not bad for a novice back then.
Even my small dome tents, never budge.
I resorted to rock pegs, as those wire pegs don't work in rocky or hard, when discovered that when I went camping in the lake district.
Now I have a Nevada M, it did great at Red Bank, some of you know how bad it can get. It survived, even side on, with a lot of flexing, but those poles did the job, not one split pole.
------------- New Year: Hesketh Bank
Feb/March: Red Squirrel
March: lakes
June: Morecambe
Aug: Lake District(not camping camping)
October: Red Squirrel
