With regard to lanterns, I bought recently a couple of HQ Weatherproof table lanterns for our recent trip, and can highly recommend them at £9.99 each from Amazon, they take 3 AA batteries each and these lasted us 5 or 6 nights,and that was with it being left on all night!
Lovely warm glow too, I cannot bear the glaring cold light that some lanterns give out.
I also hung one up next to my chair and was able to easily read by its light.
