With all that kit, I think you need to get down to a Ford dealer a get a massive transit van, get wee bucket with a lid, and lob it in the hedge in the morning.

Highly recommend it. It must be 15 years old and is indestructible. You could use cat litter and bin bags if you wanted. I buy a big pack of their sani bags which tends to last a couple of years camping.

I have a big in a bag in our weekend kit, it fell over once in the middle of the night on uneven ground post using it 😳.

We used to have a Kampa Khazi, realised it's just too big, so swapped to a smaller bucket type toilet which also was too big!
My sister who has a campervan with limited space suggested using a plastic inner from a small bathroom pedal bin.
This is lined with either a nappy sac or now I've discovered biodegradable bags from Lidl (yes I know they are a bit more money but worth it) filled with wood kitty pellets, as mentioned and voila, night time emergencies sorted.
Even if there are three of you, three small buckets stored inside each other, would still be smaller than a Kampa Khazi or a "thetford" type loo.
Space is always a premium in our car, even with just the two of us!

Wood pellet cat litter for us with folding bucket. Few good handfulls as others have said. Just swells with moisture and smells of sawdust. Tie carrier bag in morning and put in general waste

Personally we don't use anything, we just go out to the toilet in the night, but our friends that do use a chamber pot and empty it in the toilet in the morning. Anything else seems overkill and to produce unnecessary rubbish - all that is needed is a tea towel or napkin to cover it. No bags, no litter and very little space taken up.

That's all very admirable Sue, but unfortunately some of us don't possess the sort of bladder (or knee's, for that matter) that can hold out for a 60 yard sprint (after first needing to get dressed) after waking at 0327hrs.

I fear I may well "have to go" before I get there... and some neighbours can be a bit fussy about getting pi55 all over their pitch/tent/guylines!!

Some of us also camp in the winter, so again, the early hours stroll to the loo block in minus temps/heavy rain/snow etc doesn't appeal either.

Good point about the rubbish though. I can only presume the cat pellets will be biodegradable being natural wood shavings? I might look into these biodegradable bin liners mentioned further up the page... that might make me feel a little less guilty?

Space isn't an issue for us, in tent or car.

That actually looks a good bit of kit, but a bit too pricey for our needs.
It seems their bags allow for No2's too, which I wouldn't fancy in a tent, nor have the need for... touch wood!
So for No1's only, I could revert to my tried and trusted cat litter in a bin liner, but again, the loo itself is rather pricey. I like the briefcase effect instead of a bucket, but at £99, It'd need to be less than half that for me to be tempted.

On a peaceful site in the dead of night I personally don't like undoing zips to go to the loo, plus sometimes it can be a trek to the loo as Mucker has said.
I would certainly not put a tea towel over a pee bucket, and after watching a comedy about camping and the pee bucket getting knocked over, it's kitty litter all the way for me!!
In any case the bucket is for emergencies only and doesn't get used otherwise.

We bought the Pett when we were living abroad Mucker. I can't quite remember where but we were staying somewhere (state park) where you had to have your own facilities, no loos, set up for 'wild' RV camping - we wanted something that could deal with 'everything' should the need arise!

Only used for wees though - I have continued to buy their bags and powder. It probably only gets used two or three times in a week's holiday and less so now we don't do so much in the winter.

We started off with literally just a bucket. Bit of zoflora in the bottom, just fine. Only for wees and only at night.

But my daughter won't wee in a bucket. So we bought a Kampa khazi. Essentially a bucket, but looks a bit fancier. No. She still won't use it.

Prefers to walk half a mile (literally, last time we went to a festival) to go to the campsite loo.

I think that the really basic bucket models are just fine for overnight, and actually much easier to clean than fancier versions.

Yup, simple bucket (named Bertha) and Elsan we use for 'Basic Sites' for our Tenting holidays.

We're not young anymore, so going all night without needing to PeePee is not an option.
