Interested about the flue - if it goes through the tent roof, does the material need to be fire proofed or protected? Does rain come down the flue? How do you seal the hole when you don't need a stove?
A little Pither studio stove is common on old boats, I know.
And you can cook on the stove supplied with a Shelterbox, as sent out to disaster areas; flue goes out the (Vango) tent door.
We have wood burners at home, we use them instead of the central heating, or to boost the CH in sub-zero temperatures. Something very wrong if a stove is tepid, I think.

Flues in tents (or tents FROM flues ) are protected a number of ways, from wrapping heat cloth tape around the flue (often used for exhausts on motorbikes and cars). Most bell tent manufacturers offer flue isolators that hold and isolate the flue and clamp or attach it to the tent

Some people buy flashing kit for their tents,flues go through this, which no one has mentioned.

We had a Robens Kiowa with a woodburner, oh the bliss! Hot water, cooking, toast, hot Nan breads... Mind you they have a double wall vented cowl where they exit the tent at the peak (rather like a Mack truck’s exhaust) absolutely loved it, twas a faff assembling it though & we never managed to get close to the erection time optimistically stated by the manufacturer.
We’ve seen a number of bell tents with woodies & providing you take sensible precautions (we always took a carbon monoxide detector) practise a safety drill-just in case, the added comfort will enhance the whole experience. Sold? You bet....
We subsequently sold the Kiowa, but kept the woodie, I’m still trying to pluck up the courage to cut a hole in our Karsten!

Does anyone find a difference with what they burn? We now only use kiln dried wood.a tad more expensive , it’s all hard wood, burns hotter for longer so use less of it, and minimal ash and smoke. Fabulous stuff

Yes my 4m is smoky due to using a woodburning stove. Worth it though!

I'm not sure whether this will help anyone else who can't decide whether or not to get a wood burner for camping...but I've just bought a slightly imperfect Frontier stove from Canvas Tent Shop for £109 delivered - bargain!
