We have the Vango Iris 500, which is a version of the Icarus. We quite often see other campers on site with these tents. It's been a fabulous tent for us - on year 4 with it now. Easy to pitch, spacious living area for when it's wet outside. We have a Vango Pulsar 300 for short, dry trips, but our Iris is the tent we choose for when it's wet or when we are camping in one place for longer than 2-3 nights.
------------- 2019 trips booked so far:
Easter - Red Shoot, New Forest
May - Secret Campsite, Sussex
We love our tent so much that when it got damaged (extreme gust of wind when setting up, caught on Trailer and ripped) we replaced it with the same. It had been discontinued but we found a dealer on eBay who had several new ones available. We like it because of the flexibility, was great when our kids used to come and they still coukd now with their partners.
Our first tent was vis-a-vis, we changed it because it didn't have a SIG other than that it was fine!
PS the person who told you your tent was crap wasn't a camping snob, they were simply a very rude numpty!
------------- May/June - Spring Valley
Aug/Sept - Leekworth
We went camping in our Karsten in May, and for the first time ever, there was another on the same site... in fact, there were a good couple of dozen or so!
The weird thing was, despite there being so many other Karstens on site, no two were the same!
All a bit different from when I started camping 6 years ago, with that prince amongst princes, the aforementioned Icarus... with matching enclosed front extension... and matching 5 pole windbreak!!
"Popular", I'd call it though, not "Common"!

my experience this summer is that the berghaus air tents are the biggest sellers followed by anything from decathlon.
I like being nosey on the campsite but just really to see who's ideas we can pinch.
we have a big fancy ZEMpire air tent, felt slightly smug as you don't see many, it leaked! ZEMpire sent us another on a pallet truck to our campsite! that also leaked! now will mostly be found in my little Vango tALOS, don't care what people think.
My daughter adn family haev just bought a Vango Avington 600xl - put it up today and are very pleased with it, plenty of room for them and the two boys, with a roomy built-in porch so no extra canopy needed.
