We use a dustpan and brush on the hard floor plus a shakeable doormat.

If you want a good cordless vac, the G-tech is great, we have 3 now. The hand held one has a turbo brush attachment which picks up hair a treat.

The trouble with G-tech is that they are like Dysons...cost far too much and you can get cheaper ones that do as a good a job.

My Morphy Richards 2 in 1 cost around £75 originally and it does a brilliant job, the only problem is that they only seem to last about a year if you use them as your main vac. My first one was guaranteed for two years so when it started making a loud noise they sent me another one, an updated version, for free. Unfortunately that one is now playing up a bit and is only 18 months old but being a replacement was only guaranteed for one year. Morphy Richards have said they will do me a good deal on a new one but won't replace it for free.

It still works ok, just a little hesitant in starting sometimes so I will wait until it packs up and then look for something else but I can't afford hundreds of pounds. My main vacuum is a Vax and has been brilliant but not so light and versatile as the Morphy Richards, so my wife prefers the Morphy.

You've said it yourself though Bob, cost twice as much but maybe last twice as long? We've been married 45 years and have only had 4 vacs. We've had 1 of the hand held G techs since they first appeared and use it every day. We bought the floor one and second hand-held about a year ago, and use those every day too.

And I think Morphy Richards are a bit cheeky. The guarantee should be exactly the same for any new product.

Yes, I guess you are right but £250 to £350 depending on which one you buy seems a bit OTT to me for a vacuum cleaner.

The Morphy Richards one was guaranteed for 12 months but they offer an extra 12 months as an incentive if I remember rightly. Then the replacement was just for 12 months.

In effect I had two for the price of one - lol - but when my present one finally dies I will be looking for a different brand. It could go on for a long time yet though as it still works but starting it is sometimes like starting a car with a flat battery. I can't afford G-Tech air ram prices though so I will have to cut my cloth according to my means

We take our dyson handheld for longer stays. We have two dogs. We use the dog grooming brush to pick up dog hairs.

After every 2-3 trips i wash the carpets to cleanse and freshen them using hot water in our vax carpet washer which has a hand-held attachment. That really gets the dirt out.

When I got one of my Outwell tents, it came with a dustpan and brush - no need for electric at all!

I pushed the boat out recently after a bit of pressure from my much better half. Cost £2

It was met with brute scowls of an unearthly kind. It has been used on two camps.

It's now in the must have section of the kit. Works a treat.

Would make any wo(man) happy if received as a birthday or christmas present?
