Both! 4 metal - one at each corner then 2 nylon on each side ( 8 in total). Used chunky plastic pegs on the straps where the pins are and also used chunky plastic on the side canopy - but will probably get some more nylon anchors for the canopy at some time. Used normal pegs on the bits that are left!

Hi Rob,

just wanted to say you are brilliant! The delta pegs I ordered from you yesterday afternoon arrived this morning at 8.20am!!! What service

on a slightly sadder note someone at outdoor megastore forgot to put my replacement pole in the post yesterday and I am leaving (like ten minutes ago ) with both our tents... they were very apologetic and are posting it today to arrive at the campsite tomorrow... we've no choice but to use the older one tonight, and wait for the pole to arrive, when we will take down one tent and put up the new one - folk will think we're mad!

Heather

Hi Heather

Pleased to hear you got your pegs, shame about the pole though.

Have a great trip.

We went to st ives with our monty 6 and whilst putting it up in windy weather one of the upright poles split lengthways at the join onto the curved poles over the top) )

Did have a spare pole with us as this is the second time it has happened to us

Once up, the monty stood up to quiet heavy winds and rain during our stay (as did the canopy to my surprise)

Still an awesome tent and because of the built in ground sheet I will persevere with the beast

I totally agree Zidergirl - We bent one of our leg poles at the top joint, trying to pitch our Monty 4 in a strong wind (now got a replacement - and the canopy poles worked as a temporary measure) but once the tent was up it took everything that the Scottish weather could throw at it.  We love our Monty!!  Can't wait to go away again!

It's interesting to see how long it is since I made this original post. I returned the tent to the dealer and then spent months trying to get it back. All I wanted were my consumer rights and I didn't get them. Eventually the tent was returned with new poles but minus all my tent pegs and the pole that goes over the porch. The dealer then shut up shop and went out of business.

The tent has spent the last 8 years in the cellar, never opened again and without any poles. I haven't even checked if the repair was done to the tent itself, why bother? A repair to a tear is hardly going to be waterproof is it and who wants to sleep in a paddling pool.

So I wasted a load of money on a tent I managed to use for a weekend, of which only one night was as a functioning tent, the other 2 nights were in a wreck. I had weeks and weeks of pain trying to get my consumer rights from a dealer who then went bust and nothing from a manufacturer who, according to the dealer, it appears took my old poles, pegs and porch pole and replaced them with a new set of stronger poles but kept the pegs and porch pole.

It is very unlikely I will ever go camping ever again, the shoddy goods I paid hundreds of pounds for and the indifferent response from the manufacturer and dealer have totally ruined an activity I used to love as a child. As for the tent? Well it cost me over £500, I could have avoided all the pain and shoddy treatment, booked into a good B&B for the weekend, had a nice bed, hot bath or shower, real toilet and my breakfast cooked and server to me for less than that bloody tent cost.

It's not surprising you were put off by a bad experience like this. I used to have a Monty 6 and it was rock solid. I can't imagine how your poles did that so it is likely that it must have been defective. The service you received from the retailer was extremely poor and no doubt indicative of the reason they eventually went bust. I've seen good and bad tales regarding Outwell. Customer service is unfortunately down to individuals ultimately. Sites like this help to keep manufacturers and retailers on their toes. If I worked in this industry I would take note of the free market research it provides.

There are however, many happy campers. Do try again. You don't have to splash out a fortune on a tent - there are many bargains to be had on eBay or in the free ads on this site. Stick your Monty on eBay and get what you can for it.
