I have the Samsonite Pop Up Bubble Travel Cot, which is suitable from 6 to 18 months http://www.kiddicare.com/invt/tcssambubbd&source=kelkoo.  It's great it folds flat (large handbag size) and is really light.  It is also quite stable - altough now my little one is moving I would probably only use on a raised surface when there is a barrier (wall or person).

I have also heard good things about these http://www.littletrekkers.co.uk/shop/index.php/flypage/855/bbb3c3561386ad305c0cd62005c64026 which look a bit more stable.

Personally, I wouldn't be  keen on shutting a dog out in the car or a daytent overnight, unless its used to and happy being shut outside away from the family at night eg in an outdoor kennel. And Skatty is right, the living area will get a lot colder over night than the sleeping inner even in a tent with a SIG. Fine for the dog, but maybe less so for the baby - as the temperature could drop without you being aware of it.

So I reckon you either go with Val and have one parent plus one offspring in each pod, or buy a bigger tent now with at least one six/four berth inner the whole family can share! MT

My little girl is 14 mths.  I was thinking of getting the Aero bed mentioned above but am now swaying more towards "My First Ready Bed"
