I'm in my dotage and only started camping about 3 years ago. It'd be 2 years ago this April that I first ventured out in my Igloo without the wife. It was freezing and there was a gentleman there with 2 young lads. The lads were playing football and desperately trying to keep the ball away from my tent. It's strange but the older you get the more you can remember about your younger years and I could recall the times when my footy had gone into other peoples' gardens etc. so I told the lads not to worry if it came near my tent. They got on happily with their game and I went back to my music (headphones) and book.

In this life you tend to get what you give. The next evening I became ill and the father and lads helped me strike camp. I couldn't have managed on my own.

Kids are OK as long as you remember that they are kids and will do kids things.

I love children (not so sure about baby goats!) I was a registered childminder for 16 years. As long as your children know to respect others property as most children of responsible parents do you'll have great times camping. My older boys are 20 and 18 so rarely come with us but our 8 year old loves it and makes friends easily. We've only been on 2 meets so far and have quite enjoyed both. Children love the freedom a bit of space whilst still being in the view of parent/s.
