I'm single so I almost always camp alone. Don't give up - get a small tent and come out with the fell club or the association of lightweight campers. The ALC have a lot of members who camp alone, and you can socialise or go off and do your own thing, it's up to you.
I camped as a teenager, then as a Scout leader then with my family. When I divorced, I couldn't afford the car because I got the kids so I had to sell the tent. It broke my heart (although I got a good price for it!) Many years later the kids are gone (they still camp tho') and I camp on my own and meet up with all these crazy peeps at rallies and meets. Sorted, terrific!

When the 'kids' realise the cost of Spain/Skiing (and what it's like if they manage to afford it) and/or they just fancy some time with Dad, they may well surprise you by innocently asking one day,
"Dad, when are you going camping next?"
And even if they don't, it's your life - you didn't give up your friends when you had kids so why should you give them up whem they fly the nest?
PS You should get a really good price for the Vango, it seems a really popular tent - so why not sell it, get something a bit smaller (there's still some very good end of season bargains around) and treat yourself if you've got anything left over
WestJack, How are you feeling inside?? are you only giving up camping because your children have asked you too? Ask yourself a question, do you really want to give it up .
Just take a break form ti and dont sell your equipment or else you will regret it i assure you.
I too go camping alone since my hubby had to give up driving the camper van. I missed camping so much, I bought a tent and love it. It was a bit daunting the first few times, but you get used to it. Hey! If you enjoy camping, carry on and don't even think about giving up. The hardest part for me was finding a tent I could manage to erect easily, and have headroom as well, a Kyham sorted that out. Now I am happy as chips and am looking forward to the new season.
