One of the reasons I dont like sewn in groundsheets.   I throw a few of those plastic backed picnic tables on the ground, and shove them in the washing machine when I get home.

Just hoping it stops raining soon, as we are away just before Easter.  Whereas I'm not a fair weather camper, I do enjoy sitting outside the tent.   Its also far easier to find no cost things to do with the kids when its nice.  Fortunately we'vebooked a commercial site with childrens shows in the afternoon and evening.
Whats more this constant cold wet weather is really beginning to get to me.

We use black bags just inside the tent to step into with muddy boots, take the boots off and leave them in the bag.   Kept the tent remarkably clean.

Can confirm that the SIG turns into a pond if you have to de-tent in heavy rain.   Still prefer it to a separate groundsheet, though, cos we were dry and draught free all weekend.

Hi

What exactly is this mesh type groundsheet - and apart from picnic rugs and threatening everyone with murder if they even consider it - what does everyone else use to prevent mud being walked into the tent?

We're going on our first camping trip at Easter to Pitlochry - got almost everything we need. Of what we don't yet have - The fire extinguisher and blanket are on order, the ehu is in the post, the heater is reserved at Argos, now where do I request the sunshine

Hoping this weekend to be dry so we can make a hash, sorry, a perfect show of how to pitch a tent LoL!

Here's keeping fingers crossed for all camping in the next few weeks that the weather is at least dry if not warm!!!

Thanks lots for all your suggestions. Went out today and guess what...sunshine and no showers. Is this the shape of things to come? Hope so???

We have a no shoe rule in the inner part of the tent(no eating either but draw the line at no drinking) so hopefullly it will keep that part a bit cleaner but the mesh groundsheet and bin bags sound like a good shout. Also-got to get new wellies!

Take some old newspapers, place on floor just inside doorway, remove wet/muddy boots. When paper gets mucky/soaked throw away and put down some fresh paper.

Most important tip of all:- enjoy it!!!

As long as you're warm and snug and aren't worried about the tent blowing away, there are few pleasures as great as sitting inside your tent while it's blowing a hoolie and tipping it down with rain outside. Get the kettle on!!!

Last summer we found wind worse than rain.

For this year getting a cheap plastic tarp for under bedroom.  Living space had detachable G/S so put into own bin bag then just hose down when home.  We picked up a door mat from Wilkinsons.  Made from heavy plastic it had holes in and ideal for just outside door.  We used paper idea for shoes then when gets bad, just bin.

Hopin for rain when take OH away without kids.  Gud excuse to keep warm

Overtrousers and a good waterproof pac a mac are great keep you dry and warm and save on washing. They are especially useful when pitching or packing up.
