Many, many thanks to everyone for their views! Just to clear up one point - it was an inner sleeve that tore, we didn't get as far as putting the outer on!!
Still, it's right that Makro should be made aware of the fault - which I shall be doing - but we have decided to take it to a firm a few miles away to have all the sleeves looked at and re-inforced if necessary - as pointed out - they need to be able to withstand quite a lot of use.
We've had a footpath tunnel for over 10 years now and I do love the 'cosiness' of it, plus in high winds it is brilliant (talking Scottish Gale Force here during a cycling trip end to end!!) - but alas, age doesn't come alone eh and the old joints are not what they were, hence the larger model.
