Who have you insured through Gail, we're still needing insurance more for the risk of fire damage should the worst ever happen or like you said during transportation than theft. but would still like to insure for peace of mind we couldnt afford to replace all our stuff we've built it up over the last 10 years.

Thanks

Marie

Hi,

We have been camping for about 12 years now and we don't always even bother closing our tent door when we go out. We leave it open and raised as a canopy.
I have never heard of anything going astray. Having said that, I do lock things like mobiles in the car.
I wouldn't worry about security, campers will pretty much look after each other.
Have a great time and relax...it's what it's all about.

Thanks
Mike

I like to shut the front of the tent and take the loose stuff inside, so it`s clear we`re not about. Yes, so this might encourage casual thieves but it also indicates to the neighbours we`ve gone out for the day. Most of our camping equipment falls into the well used category anyway, so unlikely to be stolen.

Valuable stuff gets locked in the car, of course. But I`ve seen folk leave very pinchable stuff around the outside of tents when they go out...bikes, Cadacs/Cobbs and other fancy barbecues, sports equipment, booze etc. It wouldn`t surprise me a bit if that sort of stuff went walkies.

As an aside, we were camping in a borrowed trailer tent one year. The friend we had borrowed it from was on a cycle tour in the same area and decided to come and visit us. We weren`t there when she arrived so she zipped open the front, made herself a cup of tea, took a chair outside to drink her tea and, when we didn`t appear after a while, left us a note and closed up the tent again before she cycled off. None of our neighbours batted an eyelid, and there were plenty around. I didn`t mind of course...it was her TT...but it made me think. How many neighbours would actually wade in and confront suspicious looking lurkers?

Some one I used to work with told me his brother lost his tent.
Apparently they arrived at a camp site, pitched the tent then went for a car ride around the area where they were camping.

The thing was when they came to return to the tent, they couldn't find the campsite they had pitched the tent on and never recovered there tent.

My work mate was a very religious man and there is no way he would have made the story up either.

What a great idea!  Instead of going for lunch to a cafe on a day out...find a campsite...an empty tent...and use the facilities!  Cheap as chips!  (only joking)

Hi

Im carefull with valuables, dont leave phones about and we lock our bikes up on the A frame of the trailer tent, not worried about my camping neighbours but my sons bike is worth a bit, and better safe than sorry in case anybody off site pinches it, but then again we leave our tent open most of the time as anybody wanting to go in will anyway but not much worth pinching.  Not worried about anybody pintching the tent as it takes ages to pack up anyway and they'd get fed up before it was done

I wish somebody would take ours- no chance. My advice is dont buy something so expensive if you are a 1st timer as you might not like it, or you want something bigger next year, and the year after that etc etc. Last year we went off for 2 nights and left the tent pitched with all our gear. We asked family opposite to keep an eye out, but I was more worried it would be taken down by the wardens if they realised we were away, but all was ok when we got back. Im thinking of doing same again this year, well, if it goes, good excuse to buy more stuff isnt it.
