Yes, some of the display tents I have seen have been a right mess.  The XL I got didn't really have any signs of being used.  There was a couple of muddy footsteps on the groundsheet which just brushed off, and the base of the poles and the pegging points around the ring/pin system had mud on.  I wiped all that off and there was just a slight muddy stain left on the webbing for the pegging points, but I would have had that with a new one after its first use anyway so I was well pleased. I wouldn't have bought it if I hadn't of seen it first.

To go back to the original thread I would recommend the Montana 12

We are two adults and two children, one of each sex. We also like the advantage of using a portapotty. The Montana is the only tent offering the possibility of four separatable compartments. So at one end of the tent we have my wife and I, next door to the portapotty compartment, and at the other end the children have the other 2 compartments, which they can join if they wish (but which they separate when changing).

The thing I like about the Montana is the standing height in the bedrooms. Also the living area is big enough to cook in when the weather is inclement. The only disappointment was the small porch, but this was partially remedied in the 2006 model with it's lengthened porch (although I would personally prefer an even larger porch)

As for the Bear Lake, it looks a gorgeous tent, and I beleve the fabric is meant to last much longer, but I would buy one just for my wife and myself (and the portapotty) to escape without the children
