Hye Wildie, I'd be honoured to hold my hands up to being a whimp.  I hate crawly things hence I always go for SIG but I do class myself as a camper and a very sociable one at that!!!!

Definately Maybugs, i used to work in a kitchen on a police training centre we got them every year but we were not allowed to kill them as they are a protected species, just had to scrub down every morning as they could get every where, not just one or two either. Sorry this has upset your friend I hope you can convince her to try again.Unfortunately, when we visit the great outdoors, Mother Nature has this uncanny way of reminding us we are invading her territory and we best remember our place in the scheme of things.

I can't help but laugh, my husband, my neighbour, my two kids and I have just returned from a camping break on a farm in Dorset. One of these critters flew past my ear hole one night, I froze in horror, hubbie had passed out from the fresh air and beer so my poor neighbour wrestled it into a crisp packet!!! God I'm such a chicken, them and moths, can't stand em'. Thanks for the useful advice, we presumed they were cockroaches. Phew!!! .........but yeah, they sure is ugly looking bugs!!

I think these guys look ok!  Much better than the ticks we've brought home with us from Exmoor this weekend!  My son was getting dressed for school yesterday and I spotted a tick on the back of his knee.  Now that's GROSS.  I then checked the dogs - bit hard to do as they are spaniels and are very furry and found a couple on them.  Have now frontlined the dogs.  Offered the same to my son, but he refused!  Thank God the weather is good as I've suddenly become obsessed and am washing everything that we took, along with loads more.  Can't stop itching at the thought now.

I guess there's loads of these things out there especially in woods and near streams where wild animals live.  Maybe I'll be morw awre next time.  Yuk.

Cheers. Julie.

Loads of these little "critters" flying around in the New Forest at the moment!! they usually appear in the evening on a still night ( and some say, a full moon!!!)

You never get used to them - just duck!!

Incidentally, down here we are looking out for stag beetles too!! ...now they are a fine sight!!  damned enormous with antlers! ..but dont kill em, i gather they are protected.
