He he he, I could tell you a thing or two about thunderstorms having just spent a fortnight in the French Alps!  I have never seen storms like it, in fact we arrived in one so severe we couldn't see the road as we drove out of Annecy up the valley to Grand Bornand, I was driving on instinct not visuals!  Virtually every evening we had a massive storm, one lasted for 7 hours, went for 2 then came back for another 5.  We had ice as big as golf balls, when I get around to it I will post a piccie for you all to see.

The noise and constant flashing was out of this world, but with all the chalets and tin tents around us and being in a valley it didn't concern me for one minute.  Our main concern was whether the Monty 6 was going to hold up but it coped admirably.  At one stage it was like daylight as the lightening was so constant around the valley.

I think so long as you are vigilant, aren't the highest thing around and don't hold on to anything metallic your chances of being struck are low.  We live about 90 miles from you and I think the storms are all done with my the weekend anyhow.

Saw this in today's Times, staying at home seems to be not much safer than camping lol

A woman in Liverpool was struck by lightning in her home as she chatted on the phone in a thunderstorm. The accident happened when a bolt of lightning zapped down the telephone line as Georgia Sayonas called a friend. She was thrown across the room by the force of the blast, which left her with burns and a swollen elbow.

Ms Sayonas, 38, said: “I couldn’t believe it. I heard a rumble of thunder and then suddenly this blast threw me across the room and I saw a fork of lightning come out of the telephone.”

There shouldn't be any thunder storms in the Uk this weekend the weather is now cooler and coming from the Atlantic.

If you are ever caught out by a storm don't use a mobile telephone or if really posh a laptop computer outside unless you want to buy a replacement!
