I am lucky I have a friend who is a teacher and we test pitched my big tent  in the school playing field.

Might worth asking if it would be ok to do that.

Like others we use our local park - never had any problems with wardens.

Yes fine in Abercynon park ( the one next to the sports centre??) Not sure why it would be shut though unless it was very late. I'll check tonight, son has a swimming lesson

recommend not doing it in the evening as may be loads of youths hanging around the sports centre(although as schools are now out the eve may be best!) If they've filled the paddling pool with this weather it'll be packed!

Gelligear common is past the entrance to the car oot, anywhere round there that's flat will do. Watch out for sheep!

I'm not from round these parts either, but OH is a Treharris boy! We live on the main road of shops ie takeaways in Treharris. We had a great time up the mountain see if you can spot Dr Who  I think they've finished filming now! Good luck and relax!!

There was a space big enough next to the sports centre, but I'd prefer the common. Less spectators!

One bit of advice re those sheep, we took a tarp to put under the sig so didn't get and sheep s**t on tent's bottom

thanks for your posts Nicola, no I didnt mean by the Sports Centre, I dont think there's enough room to pitch a tent down there. I meant The recreation ground down at Carnetown (OH says it's called 'the duff'! LOL)

We went down there last Friday and pitched the tent, it was great!

You'll probably get more response from the local kids having a good nosey than any officials.

When we lived near Swindon we used to see lots of people having pic nics etc at Lydiard park and they had pitched tents. I thought it was a rally but when I got chatting to them they said they do it often taking the tents for shade for the kids/babies.  They didnt have the bedroom inners up in them.

We will have the same problem...our garden is tiny and we only have a little pedestrian lane going from the garages to our garden.

We have green areas outside the house and a nice flat area down the other end of our terrace.might put it there,otherwise we wont see it til we go away,i need to practise putting it up too....and when it comes to waterproofing i'll need to put it somewhere.

our tt is coming tommorow.

When we got our new tent, I spoke to the caretaker of the school near our house and he allowed us the use of thier playing field on a Saturday to pitch it and check it out, He even came out with a beer later on and we Christend Winny (the school is called StWinifreds and we have a Wynster!! lol.

I can`t see a problem with the park though.
