We purchased a gas George Foreman grill for £10 which is brilliant for grilling bacon etc and is very portable so you can use it inside and out. I also has a fold over lid. I would recommend these for camping. We also take cooker/grill and disposable BBQ's. Other things I would recommend:

Nice comfy air beds/mattress, Car roof box (Saves space), Tables and chairs, plenty of lighting, 12v cool box/fridge, Electric hook up, music player (Essential), Wine (Even more essential), cuttlery, plates, pans etc.

Hope you have a great holiday.

Jeff

Definitely take a decent mallet as there's nothing worse than trying to hammer tent pegs in with a toffee hammer when the ground is hard and stony. Also a good idea to buy a tent peg puller, or bend a wire peg into an S shape to use as one, to avoid damaging the peg loops on the tent getting the pegs out.

We forgot the bottle opener / corkscrew once, so we keep the spare one in the camping boxes in the garage. We go camping fairly regularly, it's so much easier if everything is in one place and there isn't a mad dash around the house collecting up all the gear you need. Also means we can throw the boxes in the estate on a whim and go off for the weekend. We don't take the childrens 'toys' eg playmobil, polly pocket they get played with once and half the bits go missing if the weather and site are any good the children will be off making friends. Take some outdoor toys, paper / pens, top trumps. Get some earplugs (for you and the children), if the site's noisy the children will settle easier.
