I have more trouble getting it back into the bag than putting it up. Laid it out this aft to dry as it was a bit damp when we packed up last weekend. The profanities coming from my mouth trying to pack it up on my on probably brought on the thunder storm were now having ;)

I gave up trying to keep all the pins on the outside, there was more danger of me taking a knife to the bugger after the fourth attempt than a pin damaging the tent!

I read in another link that some of the porch poles were made too long.

Our monty4 pole seems a little long and puts a strain on the zip and one end was touching the flysheet but after moving it around it is now clear of flysheet both sides and zip seems less strained!

I have just got back from Weymouth with our Monty 6 used it quite a few times and we love it, we find it easy to assemble, very sturdy, never had any problems and putting it away we have managed to get the right way and so fits in the bag with ease each time.

We have been 3 times in our monty and love it dearly .

Yes we had the usual "disscusions " while trying to get it up. and they have got easier each time , hopefully 4th time and it will get up with ease.

I think whatever tent you get the erecting arguments are part  to part of the experience

Stick with it - you will work out your own way of doing it eventaully and its such a lovely tent its worth it

We've used ours a few times and found it ideal

To put it up, watch the Outwell video (and then watch it again and again).

To fold it up, ignore the Outwell video:

Fold it lengthways (so it is still full length but 1/2 the width if you know what I mean). This way, if the ground sheet is mucky, then the fly is protected and the pins are all on one side.

Fold it again, the pins are still on one side.

Roll it up (from the back) - if you left the front door open then the air will be expelled through it. Tuck in the side porch as you go along if required.

Once rolled up, use the ribbons supplied with it to secure the roll - this makes the whole roll easier to handle.

Put it in the bag - use the straps in the bag to compress the roll.

Zip it up - get a hernia trying to put the lot in the car - easy!

Ours is fantastic too, we did have some lifting patches on the groundsheet but they weren't leaking and we got a replacement from our supplier. I just love this tent, it is spacious and bright and looks very impressive when up (see gallery for pics)!

we must be lucky as our monty 6 is fantastic, we have had 3 weekends away and a full week away and during that time have been through heavy downpours, strong winds and baking heat.

Its never leaked, patches have never come unstuck, it doesnt take long to errect, the porch pole is the right length, elastics for the bedrooms are intact, it stands upto the wind without flinching and i have never tripped over the sig lip (yet!)

we are very happy monty 6 owners

Glad to hear some positives - I'd really be in the deep doo-doo with OH if my posh new tent turned out to be a dog!! She didn't really think we needed a new one, you see, so I'm on a sticky wicket in any case...!!

Just spent a couple of weeks in my Montana 6,had very little rain, but still had some dampness on the floor under one of the bedrooms, don't know where it came from though. Also has a small hole in the flysheet where the velcro for fastening the side window is.Ithink this may have torn when pulling the velcro tab open, can't be sure though as didnt notice the tear until the second day.Nice airy tent though. But why no full zip on front door.Broken porch pole too,but that was all my fault.

Our Montana 6 is great. I can see why people struggle to get it up. We did at first, but you'll find a way that suits you. We peg out the rear end, put in the end roof pole and the side poles, then peg the guys at the rear end and lean the rear pole forward so that the guys hold it up. Then the next pole, and the next, and finally the front pole. The tent should by pretty self supporting by now, so grab the fron two side poles and pull it from the front to space it out and peg out the front guys to hold it up. Then insert the pins into the poles. If you grip the strap, with your index finger through the ring you can hold the pin upwards and guide it into the hole in the pole better. Then peg the middle poles to the floor, to stop the floor raising too much when the porch pole goes in. Then peg out everything else, but no too tight. Its meant to be a tent not a drum...!!! It will stretch anyway after a few days use. Trust me all you new campers...the monty is a far cry from some of the tents of old. You'd of hated them. Perceivere with it...you'll love it.

We have had no bother with ours at all.  Two fortnight hols in France so far and it has behaved impeccably in all wind and weather.  We put it up with just the two of us in less than an hour including all the pegging out.

Well ---- what a mixed bag.  We have a paid a lot of money for our Monty's and I have to say that I am disappointed.  No problems putting it up or taking it down or getting the tent and poles in the trolley bag BUT we have had 7 leaks.  The bag says to use seam sealant but I think - why should I have to after a few uses.  Maybe next year when its 'older' but not this time.  Dont get me wrong I think it could be a fab tent BUT am very disappointed in the leaks.  Its not just the mopping up on the ground sheet but the stuff that gets wet - in the first case it was the bag of electrical stuff - chargers, batteries etc. One other leak was all the shoes - its more the knock on effect - I will be taking it back.

Fiona
