Have a look on my gallery. With the smallest tent we use the wind shield over the front door. This stops the rain dripping down the tent door and into the tent. The bottom picture shows the Coleman canopy over a Vango Oregon 800. It looks a bit odd because it was very windy at the time so we made less of a tunnel with it ie. made it shorter and flatter to stop it taking off!! Both work wellkeeping the entrance to the tent dry.

Shirlz

I like that canopy that you have created on the top picture:

how is it done, Is it just a normal tarrp?

Is it stable in the wind.

I always worry about steel poles crashing through the roof of my tent in bad weather as we have aluminium poles that i don't think would be able to take the weight of a heavy steel pole.

The tarpaulin style windbreak is from tchibo .com. unfortunately they aren't advertising them at the moment, but riversway leisure have something very similar.

We last used it in the kakes a couple of weeks ago and it became a very large kite one night in strong winds and nearly blew away. So we used Delta pegs the next day and it didn't budge an inch. The poles that it came with were a bit flimsy so we had already replaced those with some stronger ones from towsure.

You can use it as a big flat sunshade on four poles, on 2 poles in a upside down V shape or as shown in my gallery. In the lakes we used it that style but not against a tent and it gave somewhere for 8 of us to sit at night when it was raining and saved the holiday....again!
