Do you know how hard it is to keep a patient under anaesthetic? It takes 7 years of training for an aneasthetist to come near it. That is in a closed circuit where inspiration and expiration are closely monitored. The theatre siege in Moscow will give you a good idea as to how difficult it is to achieve a balance between asleep and unable to recover.

The hard reality of it is, this would be impossible to achieve in a large room like a tent or a camper van.

I'm not a doctor but I have serviced anaesthetic equipment for the last 12 years and know that you couldnt achieve this without monitoring

There have been threads on here before, usually about tales of folks in vans being gassed whilst on a continental journey sleep over at a service area. The general consensus was that it was one of those urban myths. For all the reasons stated above it is highly implausible - the gas is expensive, hard to come by, and death would be very likely...and there would have been news reports if this had happened.

SO my advice is to relax, enjoy your camping and put this idea to the back ofyour mind!
