Item: StormproofUSA Oregon 8 Person 4 Room Tent 7.5ft High

Hi all - (with special thanks to phil+ruth) this is the message I sent via ebay messages to the seller of the tent!

1

Hello,

I have received the tent and unpacked it and checked it over. The tent is sticking together all over the place and when you pull it appart the internal PVU waterproofing is coming away, its almost as though it has been packed up before the waterproofing had dried!

Also the groundsheets are way too thin - like those found in a cheap beach tent and not suitable for a proper QUALITY family tent.

I require a refund of the £91.01 as the tent is not of the QUALITY standard you state in your listing. I DO NOT require a replacement.

Please give full return addresss and instructions ASAP.

I await your prompt reply and hope that we can resolve this matter quickly and without any grief.

Kind regards

This is the email I received back from them -

Hi there,

I’m sorry to hear that you are disappointed with your purchase and happy to accept a return if this is what you wish.

Please send the item back to us at;      (Ill not give their address eh)

Please be sure to enclose a brief note with your name and full postal address in so that we can identify the return as yours when it arrives.  We would advise that you use a carriage service that has a tracking facility (for your own peace of mind) as we can’t accept responsibility for packages lost in transit.

Once the item is received by us, in perfect condition, we will issue a refund to you.  If this refund is to be by cheque, please indicate the payee name in your note.

Thanks

Thank you,
eBay

This is the reply I sent back in response to their email:-

Hello Lesley/Tentastic Staff

I do not understand how I can return an item which I have found to be faulty - "in perfect condition".

I have unpacked the tent checked it found it to be faulty and repacked the tent in the bag to the best of my ability, anyone knows that tents (especially large ones) are very difficult to repack into their bag exactly as they came out.  The tent has not been damaged by me, the only faults with the tent are the ones I have pinted out as my reason/s for requesting return for refund.

Your terms for returns are somewhat hazy, and I have looked into this through ebay buyer protection also I hope your terms do not go against my statutory rights under the sale of goods act and consumer regulations acts.

Please ensure that on my returning the tent (at my own cost) that I will be fully reimbursed £91.01 which I paid for it.

Regards
Ann-Marie

your emails seem to be a little bit stroppy, bearing in mind they have offered a full refund at first time of asking

I wonder if someone with a lot to say who I shall not name might want to put THEIR money where THEIR mout is and reimburse me my postage. lol!

please explain why you think it fitting for someone else to pay for your mistakes

read my reply on your other thread

i made the same mistake you did only i handled it differently and ended up making quite a bit of money from it

also did you read the link i provided about the 300 quid tents that loads on here were slating???? as you never commented

if you do a little homework the stormproof tents can be bought on the net for 68 pounds delivered so its beyond me why you paid 91 pounds anyway for same tent

Why am I so stroppy I need to chill out dont I.

It was so annoying finding out that the tent was not ok after all, honestly would have kept it and used it this summer if it wasn't sticking together and peeling etc.

Anyway I am not going to bring it up again other than to let you guys know when Ive received the refund.

I am hoping to get a tent pretty sharpish in the sales though, my bro has offered to lend me the money pending the refund.

Seen a few I like and they are fairly local i.e. winfields & yeomans.

Anyone else know some good tent shops in East Lancs / West Yorkshire.

Cheers

Hi

Must say I was surprised when I read you were going ahead with the transaction. From reading other threads, they're pretty good with refunds, and I'm sure someone else mentions they're based not too far from you (though I could be getting confused with another problem tent thread).

In-laws are also in Colne and also have the Stormproof 8. They've had it up twice in local sites with no problems but are looking for something more solid. There's a couple of really good places I've been to:

Winfields in Haslingden and Outdoor Action in Blackburn.

Winfields will probably start setting up their main 2007 display in the next month or so, or they may have some end of season bargains just now. When I was last there at the end of October, they only had about twenty tents up due to the Santa's grotto being open.

Best bet is to try and see as many as possible before deciding. We've done this and have ended up buying all our current tents online from www.worldofcamping.co.uk, www.e-awnings.co.uk and www.yeomansoutdoors.co.uk

WoC have some good deals just now; e-awnings don't have a lot of selection just now but by April last year had quite a selection at really good prices (we got a small Coleman for £30 and there was a larger 10 berth Coleman with SIG for £130) so may be worth waiting to see if nothing else takes your fancy.

Good luck with tent buying. BTW, have you checked the northwest rallies thread in the rallies and meets section? We will be camping with in-laws at least once this year so may well be seeing you and the new addition!

I would send it back.  Look before you buy.  Our first tent was second hand but we bought it from ad mag and looked at it first.  Beleive me, you need a good tent if it rains!

Hi all,

Just to fill you in the stormproof tent will be returned monday & we already bought a suitable tent!

We got one from winfields online tent sale its the Lichfield Apharo 6 for £120 would have gone bigger with the Apharo 9 which was only £140, but they had already sold out.

Im sure the 6 man will do for us though.

Thanks to all for your help with our new tent - now I hope we will make our first camp at either the Easter Break & / Or May Bank Holiday.
