Thought I would throw a bit of info into this.

Last week I went away with the Central Regions Reional meet. It was a very big affair with appox 400 units.

Only a few of these were tents, I do mean a handful, most of them were in caravans. In saying that, most of the caravaner's seem to have a good attitude to people in tents, realising that they are in the camping and caravaning club. We turned up late, and the organisors put us in a field which they felt suited us best. Apparently it was a bit flatter, so good on them for understanding the needs of a tent.

The beer was amazingly cheap :) £1.30 a pint :) glasses of wine for a quid. They had a disco on Friday night, a clown on saturday afternoon, and a 60's band on saturday night. There was also general fun and games but a lot of this was aimed at central regions DAs fighting it out and I am not in one (I am north central region)

However, a friendly bunch of people they did seem to be, all seemed happy to have a chat. I had a really interesting chat with one guy who informed me of what tends to happen in the DA's themselves.

You see you can switch DA's, so what tends to happen is all the old farts end up in one and all the families end up in another. The one who was running the event was North Warwick, which are apparently very family friendly and so a lot of people I spoke to said "transfer to it" or "we transfered to it". It might be worth getting in touch with your local regional leaders and asking them point blank which one they think is the most family friendly.

One thing they had which was interesting was the youth section (12-18). This was a cordened off section which only youth members were allowed into. They had a little marquee of there own and a caravan for the leaders. The youth were pretty much allowed to stop up late into the early hours, I know this because I was the closest tent to them lol. They did keep the noise down but you heard the odd laugh and constant chit chat sounds. I thought this was bang on, it made me happy that the teenagers had there own little place and that they did not expect them to fall asleep and not say a word after 11pm. However one caravan owner did say to me he wasn't happy, I guess he was from an old farts DA lol.

Showers were non existant and we had to use our own toilet.

But I am thinking about this. If you got one of those outhouses, used it for a toilet tent, a shower tent (maplins sell 12v showers, use a tiny paddling pool as the shower base, warm water in a bucket) and can be used as an emergency kitchen incase of a downpour then your more or less sorted.

So, what I suppose would be a good move is if we all contacted our various Regions, and asked them straight out which DA they think would be the most suitable for families.

We can then ask those DA's which of there rallies/THS's they think will be most suitable for "families in tents". I am going to contact Central Region and North Central Region. If anyone is going to contact any of the others let me know. I will update you all as soon as I have some feedback from the regions/DA's about what they think would be suitable.

Did anythig come of the "Families in tents" group for the ccc? Having been an avid follower of this thread I just wondered if there was any feedback.

I'm wary of joining ccc as it does seem to be geared toward caravans, particularly if "own san ess". But a dedicated family tent group may just swing it for me.

North Thames Tent Camping group in the C&CC have tent only meets that would be reachable for you. For those who have a tent less than 6 feet tall, I really recommend the Association of Lightweight Campers section - they are very friendly and Lightweight is a subjective term. Children are always welcome. I arrive by bike, but most arrive by car and one lady frequently arrives by campervan and puts her tent up next to it.

Trent Valley DA have a very good site near Skegness, and one near Blackpool at this time of year. Toilets but no showers ,cheap to. When you get all your paperwork from the C&CC you can get all you want to know from the D A you'll be a member of from there web site, and you can camp with any DA you want to, and all i have camped with always make you very welcome that's why we are called the friendly club. You can make your own family camping group as we do by all going to the same site.

I have been put off joining because of the restrictive pitch sizes for lerger tents.
