Campers don't all look out for each other, maybe they used to.....
My mum went camping in the summer in North Wales and whilst they went to loos/showers their freindly camping neighbours (a group of girls) who were almost packed up to go, went in to My parents tent and helped themselves to all sorts of bits and bobs namely,Phone, holdall few clothes/ books in, cds. before leaving the site. All of these items were in the bedroom pods which were zipped up. The campers opposite confirmed that they saw the girls go in the tent and come out but didn't say anything because weren't sure if they knew each other as they said how many groups of campers go together these days. Not only did get robbed by campers it was watched by another set of campers........
Also (and i don't want to scare anyone here) My FIL went camping with his girlfriend after a heavy night drinking they stumbled off to bed, woke in the morning to find bedroom pods open and her handbag and his wallet, mobile and car keys had all been taken from their bedroom pod (they had put them safely away before drinking)whilst they were asleep, this was possibly a camper who had targetted them after seeing them drunk and concluding they would probably sleep heavily...
NOW in no way would tar everyone with the same brush and i definately think these are rare incidents and just very bad luck.
I have always kept most things in the boot of the car for two reasons. Firstly can't be seen and would be a hell of a lot harder/noisier to break into car boot, secondly keeps tent from feeling cluttered.
I think in this day and age with the pressure everyone feels to own gadgets etc and the lack of respect most people have for each other now having things pinched whilst camping is more likely than ever....My tip don't take anything of value unless neccasary And since this incident i now stick purse and phone at bottom of sleeping bag (luckily i am quite short)

When we are camping, all valuables are either in the bedroom pods at night or locked in the roofbox or boot of the car.
Most household insurance policies would cover you if items were locked away safely(boot or in a lockable roofbox), if they cover you at all on a camping trip.
My household insurance did not cover me at all on my first big camping trip, and I got insurance through C&CC, that covered the tent & all equipment whilst on site. Cost about £50.00per annum. Suprising how much sleeping bags, clothes, stove, tables & chairs, EHU etc can all add up to, if it goes missing.
Out of sight, out of mind is all very well, but better to be insured for added piece of mind.
