Has anyone any experience of the Fiat Doblo 1.3 multijet? The cargo capacity and economy seem second to none, although one reviewer said it had "a face only a mother could love."

The 1.3 multijet engine is highly regarded if you can overcome the overall reliability of FIATs, in particular their electronics!!
Re the Doblo, got one recently as a "Courtesy Car" when I had to put my Berlingo in for some work on the door. Normally you'd get a C1 or such small thing, but they mucked up and the only thing the joint fiat/citroen dealership had was one of these. seemed cumbersome having driven my lingo for over 10 years I was NOT impressed with the doblo, (don't know what engine type it was - by the time they'd sorted out the C**ck up I couldn't have cared less as long as it went) I found it really difficult to judge it's size as it seems to bulge out at the bottom more than you would think. I'd stick to my Berlingo any day.
Plenty of space, sliding rear doors, choice of van style or tailgate opening rear door. Has more of a car like interior feel to it. Can also have a removable 3rd seat row if needed. Good choice of engines too.
The Dacia Logan is a cheap & cheerful motor, but no great shakes in performance, which is fine, 'cause it makes no claims on being a performance motor and costs relatively little. Plenty of useful space too.
Now I have decided on a Partner or a Berlingo, I have been looking out for them on the road and everyone I have seen has been driven by a man in his 60's or 70's!
Don't have a problem with that and won't mind being the only slip of a 45 yr old girl driving one, but just wondered why that was??
I think the VW would be good because I have a VW at the moment and it has been so reliable. The problem is I don't think there are that many about and the price is probably going to be high.
I'm having second thoughts now about the partner/berlingo. The main reason is the safety aspect in a crash.
I've just had a look at Parkers and see the Partner is the better of the two on safety.
I think that you are right about the Dacia perhaps not enough power for towing or heavy loads?
Why are you worried about the safety aspect Gingerlily?
The old shape had a 4* Euro NCAP rating and the new shape scores better. A fiesta crashed into the back of ours and was a total wreck, the berlingo had nothing more than a minor scratch! The new ones have all the usual airbags and seatbelt tensioners etc. that your average saloon comes with. What I don't understand is how parkers works out the Partner is better on safety when it's identical apart from the front bumper (even comes with both logos on all the parts)?
------------- Current tents in use: 5m Bell, Obelink Palamos 6, Vango Tornado 300 Vango Force 10 Mk3, Hypercamp Eldorado & Orange Raclet
I worry about everything. I'll take another look at the safety ratings.
I do really like the Partner a lot. I've been thinking about getting one for two or three years (obviously not constantly) and I go through all the different possibilities, round in circles, and always come back to this or the Berlingo. Got to get a bit more money together after Christmas first.
We're twenty somethings and onto our second Berlingo!!! Love vans and camping so great combo. Have used as removal van as well for various friends who never fail to be impressed by the sheer amount of stuff we can load!
When I looked at the two models berlingo and partner the two were made to Exactly the same specifications... Teh badges only were different.. I am imagining something. Pergeout and Citroen are linked as companies.....
