As I do not possess a football shirt and I am not clinically obese, Haven is not for me

I do not possess a football shirt, and I am not clinically obese - ok I could do with loosing the odd pound or two, but you couldn't say that I was obsese.
I am perfectly capable of reading something harder than Beacon Book 1 (old fashioned reader), in fact somewhere I have a bit of paper saying that I have a degree. Nor am I a teenage single mum, in fact the oposite, not starting my family until I was 40.
Yet we have had a couple of good holidays at Haven sites, both hiring a static and camping.   The children have loved the children's shows, and my daughter was totally besotted with Bradley.
Just because we chose a Haven site did not mean we spent the evening in the bar, getting totally drunk while the kids ran riot.  We used to go the the children's show, and then go back to the tent,  the children going to bed, and Richard and I playing cards with a cup of tea, or may be something slightly stronger, but just the odd one.
Some days we have stayed on site and made use of the pool or the children's afternoon show, and other days we have gone out and about to places of interest in the local area.     At Greenacres we spent time on the beach.
Similar type of thing as friends do - also well educated/good jobs do with their daughter when they take her to Haven.

Yes I know that there are chavs there, but they are everywhere.   Simply going to a commercial site does not make you a chav/beer swilling yobbo/teenage mum with uncontrolled screaming kids who are running riot.

We also do sites with very little on them.   Showers are a must, especially the state my two get into when playing.
I also look for a play area, as it is a good indication as to the likelyhood of there being other children on site.

Hi Magentarose,

Well we have just bought our first tent, after a weekend away sharing a tent with my son, daughter in law and three young grandchildren  all under 5.  We went to the Lakes, without a booking, late on Friday.  We couldn't get into any of the larger sites, but found a site similar to your number 1.  My daughter in law was hoping for a nice site with good weather for our first trip.  The weather wasn't so good but the site was excellent quiet, basic but clean. We loved it - number 1 every time.  My question is where was your number 1  site please?

Hi Chops,

My number one site was on our first camping trip and we are going there again next week  Manor Farm, which is in North Norfolk. It has 3 fields, one for owners with dogs/tents/tourers, another for tourers only and a third for tents. Lovely spaced pitches and a great sea view.

Next time we are getting away without the kids for a week (friends are joining us half way throug the week) wow what will we do with ourselves for a whole week LOL

Glad to hear you had a great time

Rosey

I think it was the sarcastic bit about reading books that did it, you implied that the ones that want a quiet holiday are boring and sit reading books.

Nothing boring about reading books, except maybe as a spectator sport! You can find anything you want in a book - action, mystery, humour, romance, suspense, or even enlightenment.

It's quiet sites for me every time. We always pick sites within walking distance of a pub so we can have a drink if we want, and that way we actually get to meet local people instead of just other trippers. I've found quiet, small sites generally friendlier and better run, and we avoid EHU pitches as I hate overhearing people's tvs.

All we want in the way of facilities are decent showers and lavs, and maybe a shop that hires out ice packs for the cool box. It's nice if they'll order a paper for you, too, I do like to read the paper while tucking in to my eggs and bacon, but I'm not too fussed.

Hubby wears football shirts, we both could do with losing a fair bit of weight and we prefer to have EHU, oh yes and I do read books whilst camping,

But and a big but, we much prefer small sites with clean but basic facilities.  We are going luxury this year as the site has a playpark for little DS

Books, mags, radio (on quietly) lazy summer days in the sun, watching the world and their dog go by. A glass of beer as the dinner cooks on the stove, hubby possibly doszing in his chair. Enjoying life our way. We stay away from what we know would be the loud, full in the face holiday sites, we would not use the facilities so why book a site when we know it would not be for us. Busy life means we like to flop about on holiday. I am a tutor, and also look after my grandchildren a couple of days a week so look forward to the break

Well we've only done one camp so far so time has yet to tell which type of site will be for us but...we do go a couple of times a year to haven sites for weekends courtesy or the Sun £9.50 holidays and we've always had a great time with and without the kids. I think they can act as a great base and the facilities and activities on offer are a brilliant back up if the weathers foul.

Having said this our first foray into camping was the other weekend at Butterton, a fantasic if somewhat basic site (2 toilets 1 shower), where you just pitched up wherever you wanted and got on with it the kids loved it and it cost us the grand total of £4 per adult a night. August will see us trying Kelling Heath which seems to be a bit more organised and expensive! So I guess time will tell!
