Seems a bit daft to me to put stuff away over night or when going out. Invariably it will be put away in a tent or an awning and a sharp knife is all that is needed to gain entry and steal.
I use a small electronic gadget, battery powered, with a long extending cable that is wrapped around precious stuff. When the end is plugged back into itself it forms a circuit. If this circuit is broken by cutting the cable, or the unit is moved or jogged, 10,000 decibels (estimate) enter the ear drums of anyone within a huge diameter.
Trouble is I hardly ever use it, being of the most trusting type myself.
