I have an Erde 122 trailer which I got brand new, half price at Halfords this year. I purchased the spare wheel and cover from a specialist trailer dealers as he did me a deal.

I have an estate with a huge capacity and a 470 litre roof box which has always been used in the past and accommodates everything comfortably .... light stuff up top, bulky stuff in the boot!

Having changed my tent this year and used the trailer for the first time recently, I'm tending to think that the roof box option was better.

I've been to the same site twice this year with more kit on the second trip. The first was with roof box no trailer, andthe second with trailer, no roof box. Fuel consumption was no different, and the car (a 1.8 VW engined Skoda) pulled the weight no trouble.

I'm really not sure why I brought the trailer and went to the expense of making a custom lid for it ...... will have to make a decision next year when I've used a few more times!

wow, could be expensive kitting myself out with a roof box and trailer! Was thinking maybe a solution is to get a dog trailer!!!! That would free the boot up, I can't put anything but bedding on back seat as my littley is in a car seat in the back! Thinking I definitely need to stay a camper and NOT a glamper so WILL NOT buy or take too much stuff.... mmmm, what are the chances of that....

HI,

We have a Picasso, and we use a roofbox. Car normally averaged 47.9 to the gallon, with the roofbox it drops to 40mpg, but we are full laden too. Despite being 6'2, the roof box can be a pain to get stuff out of......ie only I can do it!!

Roofbox is cheapest option, I had the bars for free, and paid £62 for a roofbox from Fleabay. Box is a large 420ish ltr.

We are changing the car next year and WILL be having a towbar and trailer! I will be looking for a bargain trailer over winter!

Rich
