I agree with nina and gilly, you don't need to go far to enjoy yourself. I just checked on aa routefinder, one I go to often is only 4.5miles away, average time 13minutes LOL.

I don't drive, hubbys not keen on camping, kids love it there , and we can walk to asda from the site, Perfect.

where would that be then Beefy

I'm another 1 miler, the first time was to practice pitch our new tent and then we realised how good it was to be so close to home and for it to feel like a real holiday - all for £12 for four of us.

Hi

For us it is a necessety to camp near home as my partner can then come to us when he finishes work he works all over the place never the same days off each week as he installs sky and the kids 2&5 still want to see him at night. He finds it really hard to get holidays off when the kids are off school so we could not go away as a family other wise.

OH work commitments were one of the reasons we always stayed close to home too.

I just couldn't camp close to home - well not that close to home anyway.  I suppose its because its so much hassle to get all the equipment and kids stuff into the car that if we travel a bit it feels more like we've been somewhere!

We live in Chester and did consider the Plassey in Wrexham earlier in the year and thats not too far but the nearest we've actually camped has been Anglesey and thats over an hour away.  I don't know why it does bother me though because as a child all our holidays were on a narrowboat which was moored only a few miles from home and it always did feel like we were a million miles from home!

When I lived in Scotland I used to camp all over Scotland, then we decided to take the family camping to Devon and Cornwall.  Now we live in Cornwall we've driven all over France and are now thinking about German, Italy and Croatia via Kent(which is an area we have not been to).  So yes I love camping and will still camp in Devon or Cornwall but it's really great to travel and see a bit of the planet.

The closest to home we have camped is actually in the backgarden. It faces south, so when the sun shines its lovely. We take the stove etc then make hot choclate in the evening and cook breakfast in the morning, only using the house to use the loo. My daughter has her friends over to stay for a couple of nights they think its great fun.The most amusing bit was the neighbours face as I was sitting in the deck chair with a glass of wine, "are you practising she shouted?", I replied "No! It's the real thing'...

When my mother lived in her house, her neighbours used to go to a site less than 2 miles from the house. I used to think they were nuts but, thinking about it, I'd go that close to home anytime.
