Let's not be elitist campers, if you wanna wear stilletos or crocs, who cares... I don't dig the camping is trendy thing, but even so, who cares, the great thing about camping is that it is a great 'leveller'. People from all walks of life can enjoy t in a way that is right for them.

But with peope tightening belts this year (us included), it's worth looking into getting that booking sorted rather than waiting (as we have done) until the last minute, as was possible in previous years.

ALL CAMPERS WELCOME! Just not on my pitch LOL

Have just come across this thread, personally i feel that camping should be enjoyed by everyone from every walk of life.

In the current financial climate camping has got to be a winner and at the end of the day we live in a beautiful country with lot's to see so why not enjoy it. 

People go on holiday to relax and get away from the general run of everyday life.  Whether it be in Florida or the Lakes a holiday is a holiday.  It's all about who your with and doing what you enjoy.

There will be people who don't like camping and enjoy package holidays (but thats prob because they haven't done camping properly) and there are people that enjoy a night under canvas.

Personally i can't wait to get me Gelert out and sit sipping cider and playing cards with my OH.

We are a gay couple, live and work in the city. Not what some would class as typical campers (in the canvas sense of the term). Been camping for years and always brought mates gay, straight young old, rich (ish) and poor along for the fun of it.

We just feel camping more than any other situation means everybody gets on with everybody else, regardless of background (and salary).

Where camping is concerned...the more the merrier we say.

Let's keep our fingers crossed that won't happen, as you say, not everyone who can't afford Fuengirola will turn to tents. We have been very choosey this year about sites, and have not booked pricey sites. In the free market economy, I hope only those that provide year in year out value for money will survive.

I knew I shouldn't have posted just before leaving the office - I certainly didn't mean that it wasn't possible to enjoy both UK Camping hols and foreign travel (I do too!).  The only point I was trying to make was that camping - particularly if you need lots of kids entertainment - isn't as 'cheap' as the press seems to portray it.  Those people who do swap Tenerife for Tenby this year, will probably find they spend more than they bargained for, which (having had to give up certain luxuries) will put them off doing it again.

Having spent last August under water in Cornwall and two bank holiday weekends doing a passable impression of Mary Poppins we have decided to have our main holiday in Greece this year. Sunshine guaranteed, bars and restaurants that do not actually hate children and hopefully nobody moaning  

We are still going camping, actually had the kit out for a service this weekend past, and our first trip will be in the half-tem next month. You can do both, the desire for a peaceful trip under canvas is not mutually exclusive from the need for a drop of sun on my old bones. I am lucky that we are on the edge of the New Forest and any dry weekend is a possible camping "holiday" !

Hiya just when we are talking about campsite/equipment prices increasing please see the thread in the equipment forum re argos price increases. Kevin from camping on line says that the industry will be increaing prices from 30-40%.  Sorry I am not sure how to post a link to a thread.
