i see what you mean dezzie, but for me isolation from everything i use in everyday life is not impossible, but also not something i want to do on a regular basis.  i don't mind non ehu, but its not what i prefer.  Take whitsun we may be spending 9 days non ehu.  Not brilliant for me, but i can live with it as we wont be using tv and such that often (going to gwithian for the beach not to watch telly),

If you feel like its right for you then do it.  You have to do what is right for you and yours and i hope it all works out for you matey.  If not you can always revert to ehu use later :)

Isn't going away about being with your family , having a good time with each other and spending quality time with the kids(if youv'e got them) , I thought camping was about getting back to basics and mucking in together to show your kids there is more to life than electric gadgets .

Would you take all these gadgets if you went on any other holiday ,like the Med for two weeks , of course you wouldn't , yet people cramp their cars with all these gadgets to go camping , a home from home  , well why bother leaving home in the first place.

How many of you have kids that have joined the Scouts , Brownies ,Guides or Cadets , they are not allowed to take a psp or the likes with them,  why ? because its about teaching kids to do things for them selves and helping others , giving them self confidence and a non selfish attitude to life. isn't that why you let them go and do things like this in the first place.

Its easy life giving your kids a portable games consul to shut them up or sticking on a video etc etc etc , but it is not for me , I hope my kids are knackered at the end of the day through enjoyment they have had and want to sleep.

I'm not trying to tell anyone what to do far from it , we all have to live life as we see fit but having someone with a chronic illness like Dezzie and I kind of concentrates the mind a bit more into what is important in life and what isn't ,and to me a smile is worth ten million times more than gadget.

I don't have nothing against EHU and if my wife gets cold I'll be the first one to use it , but only out of neccesity.

yes madhouse your right you don't need it, and yes if we went to the med we would take gadgets with us.  CD player, radio, ds's, laptops all come with us because we like to have things to do during siesta time before we go out.

My wife and daughte will quite happily sleep all afternoon on those holidays, but me and my son will go from 6 in the morning till 3 in the morning and then get up and go again!  Its the same on a tenting holiday, although in a slightly different timings.

Son will be up at 6 everyday and while a TV and a Laptop may not be for everyone those little gadgets keep him occupied last thing before he sleeps when we want him to wind down and first thing in the morning when we want him not to be getting bored while we are getting dressed, preparing breakfast etc.

No one needs electricity no one needs gadgets, but the simple fact is they can make things a whole lot smoother with kids around.

Fair comment John ,but thats what I love about the forum everybodys point of view , we all have different reasons for doing things and everyone does what is best for their family , I can only put mine across , my camping up until now has been a bit different to the rest of you as we have only ever camped at bike rallies , so this year will be an experience for us as a family unit to actually use a camp sites.

 I must say we are looking forward to it and after a couple of of trips i might be converted to use EHU , but from the offset because of the tent size and little knowledge of the sites and the fact of what i have read on here , I thought it might be better to try and go non EHU in case we can't get on a pitch with it.

All info to us at the momment is valuable to us , and I really appreciate everyones point of view , even if mine seems a little out of the box .

I've never been camping with EHU, but my dad has a spare car battery with the cigarette lighter attached so phones can be charged up (I also have an emergency phone charger, purely for emergencies as opposed to texting and phoning people all day lol) and to run the light at night, but that is all.  Otherwise for us it's down the shops to freeze our ice packs.

I couldn't really justify paying extra just to get EHU, but who knows in the future I may just give it a go. My cousin said I can borrow his if I want to.
