I've really enjoyed reading this thread.

I'm camping on my own too. Going away next week for the first time, only for a few days, just to see how things work out. Having spent a small fortune on the equipment I hope I'm going to like it - but I'm sure I will.

Reading these posts has reminded me of one essential I haven't purchased yet......Wine! I'll soon put that right.

John.

Sometimes wine can give me a headache in the morning, but never while I am camping though! Another plus ppoint about sleeping in the open air.

hope you have a great time John and dont forget to let us know how your trip goes

Wow! As many have said this is a great thread. I, like a good few above, am off for my first solo camp (next friday) up on the Isle of Arran. I was so worried about being a 'billy no mates' but am heartened by the comments on this thread and feel much more confident now that I'll enjoy the experience. Thanks V much all.

Definitely sounds like a couple of good books and a bit of splosh helps the nights go smoothly, just what I had planned too!!!

Great to hear so many people are going off on their own!..good on you all!

I camped alone before I had my son and thoroughly enjoyed every second of it. As has been said before it is very liberating  and also very relaxing as you don't have to consider anyone else at all.

Agree with Mispet in that the best bit is you can do what you like, when you like, for as long, or as little as you like!

I don't camp solo now as I have my son in tow but people invariably ask me 'oh are you on your own' despite my son being next to me....I always reply that no I'm not alone as I have my son with me. I don't consider camping with my son to be the same as camping alone as I have someone else to consider although I suppose I can still pretty much do as I please as I'm still the boss.....just!

Great thread...has made me want to go off alone again!

Btw, SmallB, I would be really interested to hear how you get on with your jaunt to the Isle of Arran....I have a thing about islands and am looking to go out that way next year. Good luck with your trip.

Hello! I'm also a solo camper, and i enjoy it too.Bought myself a Star Camper 3 tent from Outdoor Revolution and have so far camped over Easter in Snowdonia and next week i am heading of to Luss in Loch Lomond for 4 nights before heading down to the Lakes for few nights there. Does'nt bother me camping on my own at all, i come and go as i please, take a good book, a little music, some booze. happy.
