Well, one of mine is Border X Jack, and the other is Border X Jack X Lakeland in some sort of combo. The Border X Jack hairs, even though they don't shed a lot, still manae to get right up my nose, in the back of my throat and in my eyes! I hate it when I get in bed and she's been near the top of my duvet or on my pillow during the day - GRRRRRRRR!
Jess and Borda are not allowed on my side of the double bed, and I don't let them in the bedroom unless I am there

Wheres the Joy?
I am a firm supporter of the Dog at the foot of the beds philosophy. We dont have a problem with dog fart (I'm pobably more guilty!!) or dog hair even though she is a long haired border collie mongrel cross). Our dog is a close family member and sleeps where she is most happy. We dont mind at all. Only once was it a problem after she had rolled in badger poo ! yuk.
I agree! Jess and Borda are my kids substitute, and are very dear to me.
There is a farm that I avoid cycling near it, as last time I did that with Borda, he trotted on some poo and stank, so off to the shower he went.
When at home, he likes to rest on the sofa next to me, or sleep on the spare side of the double bed with Jess, and seldom sleeps in his cage anymore.
They love roast chicken, so I go and get discounted ones late in the evening near closing time at my local Morrisons 9p a hot roast chicken was the best price ever, they are mostly 99p though, still a bargain IMHO!

Talking about dogs, I can't help but feel sorry for the little dog I encountered while Borda and I went walking around the campsite at Chichester recently.
It is some kind of Yorkie cross, and was tied up by a lead which is barely long enough for it to walk to the back of his tiny little hut to do its business. The opening of the hut faced inwards against some junk yard. There was no toy about for it to play or chew with. When it walked around the hut, its lead would brush against its poo
Although it had food and water laid out for it, it did not appear to be well socialised or happy, and was cowering against a fence and whippered as we approached.
As we walked pass, I said to Borda that he is so lucky to have the run of the entire garden at home, a nice Igloo for shelter, paddling pool when it is hot, with Jess for company, talks to the neighbourhood dogs, a nice lady to walk him every day, and not chained up by a 2m lead, alone, with nothing to play with.
The next day, the little dog's hut was move so that the opening faced the fence, and it did not come out at all when we went pass. My heart sank as I walked pass.
Later, I discovered there was a horse in a small junk yard behind locked gates close by! It has barely sufficient room to make a turn!
Why do people treat their pets like that?!

I dunno...all you lot who let your animal sleep on your bed at night! For one I can't stand the incessant smell of dog fart. For two, dog hairs get right up my nose. No way. For us....at home they sleep in the kitchen. And we usually have someone look after them when we go away. But I think we might be taking them with us next month, in which case they'll either have their own tent (the £3.99 canvas dome I just bought from ebay), or they'll have their duvets near the doorway of the bell tent.
If your dogs are incessantly emitting unpleasant farts, you should try changing their diet! Mine rarely fart, although until I found a food that suited him, Django was a one-dog biological weapon factory. And they don't moult, so no problem with hair. The warming effects of two small dogs snuggled up to you on a chilly night are wonderful.
I don't know how you can bear to leave your dogs behind. I'd really miss mine if I went away without them, and I'd feel mean about depriving them of a trip that they really enjoy.

Fran, they don't really fart that incessantly....but there's all that smell of doggy BO as well....that lovely cheesy smell they develop after rolling in horse muck, that foxy smell from scrambling through the bushes...it all adds up to create a bit of an atmosphere!
Life revolves around the dogs at home, and we've got 4 kids so it's nice, just occasionally, to go away dogless so life can revolve around the kids more (at home, the kids are at school, while the dogs are the ones who get the love and the walks during the week!). But when we do leave them behind, they are looked after by neighbours who move into our place, and walk them and love them. The dogs seem to find it all quite exciting. However, for our planned trip coming up next month, I have a feeling the dogs are going with us.
BTW, Fran, bit of a cheek I know, but do you have any garden work or trees, hedges, landscaping, fencing, irrigation, paving etc that need doing? We do a lot of work in Lewes and would love to have even more! And Ovingdean... My email address is p then a dot millis at sussex then a dot ac.uk

Loads of weeding, Pete, but only if you work for free! Too skint to pay anyone, and Mr F does the fences (he's a chippy). A friend's just moved into a rented place in Ovingdean though, I'll pass your details on to her (she's a tax consultant, so you could have a mutually beneficial relationship....) and I'll bear you in mind.
You could try a post on the forum at lewes . co. uk.
