I tend to pick my campsites based on an area I want to go an see, so spend most of the day away from the site visiting local sites. I'm lucky that I live close to North Wales and can get there by train quite cheaply.

Also my Grandparents used to have a cottage near Bangor where we used to spend at least 3-4 weekends a year so the whole area holds fond memories for me. Sadly it was demolished about 15 years ago when they built a bypass through the area.

I think in future though I might go a bit further afield, but I'll probably still stick to areas I want to visit for the sights. I'm like that on any type of holiday though, I can't stand being bored, I think my head would implode if I had to spend a whole day at the beach!

All my campsites are based on photographic/walking locations So i normally leave the site to try and catch the sunrise (0330 am at Malvern) Normally back by about 4ish in the afternoon Then either find somewhere to eat or make sarnies then off to bed normally before 2130

Done a fair bit of both(on site all day) and off sight seeing..Especially when the kids were younger....Visited a wee site in Yorkshire for 4yrs running...1st two visits the only time we (my son and I) left the site was for provisions in the village shop...Rest of the time was spent fishing..or in the small onsite pub...No radio...no tv..Hardly read a newspaper...Remember thinking as we were packing up one time...The world could have come to an end round about us..and neither of us would have known about it...Do like to get off somewhwere (sometimes though) depends on the mood Im in...

Jelboy.

next year we hope to do a few more and if i get my own way ( which I am sure I will) they will all be in locations where we want to go to the beach - I ave prommised ds and dd proper surfing lessons next year !

If we are going for a week or so we tend to do a mix.. First couple of days chilling at base camp with a good book and a game or two of badminton, then build up to a couple of afternoons out and home in time for tea, then a full day trip, then a final relaxing day.

If it's just a weekend then mainly on site with a few walks thrown in - not having to use the car - to stop me getting stir crazy. I'm not a great relaxer!

Nope, in the English Riviera you cannot have a leisurely morning because after 11 you can't get parked anywhere!  So we are usually out by 9 until late afternoon.  Shame really but the entire area is a gigantic car park and anybody who has travelled the Torquay road will know what I mean.  We won't talk about parking in Brixham later in the day either lol.
