 OMG this thread is a scream !!! There really are some weird people running campsites.

This one sounds like school camp. Do they come & check all the tents/vans to make sure no-one is getting up to any hanky-panky too. ? And NO midnight feasts allowed either ? I'm going to wet myself in a minute

Im assuming this site was one with a seperate carpark...Cars only allowed when your pitching/unpitching...If dogs are allowed on the site..how on earth do you get them to the car for a day out etc if the owner thinks that your dog walking by your side on a lead is being exrecised??? What do you do Carry them??? or nip over the hedge into the adjoining feild..walk up that..then nip over the hedge into the carpark??...I have visions of all these people struggling up the site from the far corner with a St Bernard/Great Dane/Golden Reteiver Etc etc...draped over their shoulders!!! Suerly to goodness a dog must be allowed to walk to the car?? Without fear of a telling off...Sounds way over the top for silly rules that one...BTW Im also against an add on charge for dogs on site..for most of the reasons already listed...Can iust about live with a charge for visitors..as long as its reasonable...they after all can use the sites facilities....

I think if we ever went again we should encourage all dog owners to carry their dogs around the site, particularly owners of larger dogs! Imagine the sight! It would be hilarious. For those who cannot physically do tis I would suggest they push them in a pram instead!!

Lol, that would be too funny. I like the idea of getting a pram for mine. It would have to be a big old Silver Cross, to give them a comfy ride, and I'd have to strap the dogs in, or they'd jump out and break the rules. 

To put things in perspective about this campsite , yes it is a bit expensive , yes there are too many rules and yes it can be a bit off putting.

But , it is a nice , well run site in an excellent location and the owners have always been friendly to us whenever we have visited. We have a bit of a laugh about keeping to the rules and my daughter now refers to sites as strict or not strict !! I agree that a lot of site owners could learn from Fforest Fields and the like as their relaxed and trusting ethos results in a superb camping experience and thats why Fforest Fields is probably my favourite site.

I will probably go to Dafarn Rhos again next may so I will report back if we got into trouble with the rules !!

Riddles I would definately NEVER go to the Yorkshire site again! My children were terrified and neither me nor OH slept a wink. I have never fely so unsafe in a tent.

The Anglesey site was, without question, beautiful and although we didnt feel as relaxed as usual on our camping hols at least we did feel very safe at night. I still doubt we will return as there are  so many other fanrastic sites nearby.

Calpyline, what exactly was so terryfying?  Why did you feel unsafe?

We've been today for a look (over that way anyway), and liked the look and will probably book, going off the other reviews on this site.

 

Nixx, In answer to your question:

the night we stayed at the site we felt like we were in the middle of some rowdy festival. The site was so overcrowded that there were guy ropes from the tents infront, behind and on both sides touching ours and this was the same all over the field. To add to this there were campfires (in old washing machine drums) all over the place and many of these were being controlled by drunken youths who seemed determined to make their flames bigger and higher than anyone else's.Many of the campers were in very large groups . The majority of these consisted of lovely people who just wanted to spend a great night together having a party. However there were also several other large parties of people who couldnt care less about anyone else and insisted on shouting ,swearing VERY loudly and even singing until beyond 4.00 am. My OH had politely asked two of the groups at 1.30 am if they would mind lowering their voices as we and other campers had young chuildren. He was told in no uncertain terms to **** off. Following his requests the noise got louder and the language became increasingly obscene and thtreatening. There were even children within the groups who were singing and shouting and messing with the campfires in the early hours of the morning whilst their parents were clearly so drunk they didnt have a clue what they were up to.

I had raised my concerns about the overcrowding with the owner early on in the evening before the field was even half as full as it eventually became. She assured me that she wouldnt be allowing any more tents on the site. What a joke! The arrivals just kept on coming!! I also asked her if  the site would be particularly noisy with so many people  and she said " We dont allow any noise after 11.00 and we hear everything up at the house because this field acts like an ampitheatre and we would come straight down here and sort it out." Nonsense!

We packed up as soon as it was light enough to see and drove to Wales. Our children had been terrified and were not keen to sleep in a tent ever again. However we didnt want to put them off and luckily our favourite site had room for us so we were able to reassure them and remind them that being in a tent is USUALLY the best place to be,

I wouldn't be going here with children, after reading that, although I spoke to a friend at work who has been, and her only concern was that the drops where her kids were climbing were too high/steep.  We'll probably give it a go just to see, because it's in such a handy and nice location for us.
