As for pegs - go equipped for every eventuality. Long nails would have probably been fine for me the other day, unless the ground had become saturated over night in which case they wouldn't have held as the flint would have been able to move around. As it was I went for steel Atlas pegs (mega tough V angle pegs) that I could hammer through the flint and would also have provided ample holding power had the ground become wet. Normal hard pegs worked ok with a bit of jiggery pokery for the ground sheet. Going equipped for me was easy this time as I had just received an order from a UK manufactuer of several hundred pegs of different types on the morning we went. I'm glad, as the pegs supplied as standard with my tent wouldn't have made it past the first cm of ground!

I will get OH to have a look at all this sometime, including the bitty somewhere on the site about Deltapegs which I don't think he's seen (I'm always hogging the pc)    He is a super-duper-practical/handy kind of person & will be able to see if any of this will be likely to work for us with the flipping rock-hard boulder-infested ground that seems always to be in our fav. kind of places. If he has some doubts/questions, or even a bright idea or two which may be of interest to others, I shall return (I do the communications side!)

Would any of the assorted pegs you received have been as effective as Delta in 'medium soil' though?

Delta pegs will effectively cover the whole mid-range from just under hardest to  just above softest soils.

we've had nothing but wind on Anglesey for the last MONTH.And when its windy here,boy is it windy.its getting on my nerves.my daughter goes back to school weds.and she has only been able to play out about 3-4 days all hols as we've had rain with it.

its been more like winter for the last week,i thought this global warming was supposed to make it more like it is southern europe
