Around 18 months is the worst for toddlers wanderings. They have the ability but no sense.

Eldest at 18 months on her first camp kept wandering off to say hello to other campers dogs. Youngest kept wandering off to see the nearby duck on a  stream. Fenced off but you can never trust a toddler !

Along way from the tne tto anywhere they can get into trouble is a useful place to pitch.

We've just been at the start of half term with 21 month old and (nearly) 5 year old.

Older one no problem.  Younger wouldn't stay in the sleeping bag at all and freaked out at being zipped up in the pod (even though they're sharing).  I'd taken a baby gro bag so we put her in that, unzipped sleeping bag and put that over the top once she'd gone to sleep.  They also needed blankets as it was pretty chilly at night.

Elder one is in a vango nitestar midi with blanket when we go to bed.  She seemed fine.

They're both on a Kampa pink bed with the sides (well, one each) but they're big and 2 of them in a 3 man pod and it's tight.  Might change to inflating mattresses in the future.

We had to rock youngest to sleep which was a pain.  We never do this at home.  She's in a bed and is fine.  Hoping she'll get used to it (I'm sure she will).  Even walking around the campsite in a pushchair for about 40 minutes one night didn't do it lol.

I have 2 year old twins and we just got back from a holiday in Cornwall. We ditched the travel cot and took airbeds, but they didnt take to them at all. We couldnt use travel cots though as they can climb out of them now and its too dangerous. We dressed them warmly and took their little duvets which was fine, sleeping bag trials at home before we went were a total no no, they cried in them, then wriggled out of them, then we just ended up putting them over them like duvets anyway. They didnt like being in the dark but hated the light on so we got them some of those snap glow sticks and put them in their room they worked a treat. They also hated the sound of the rain and wind in the tent at first, so we got them to play with the inner rooms in the tent to get them used to the noise. We fenced in our eating area with windbreaks which gave us peace from chasing them in the mornings and at meal times. We also moved bedtime right back and put some lavender stuff in their bedtime bath to help them sleep.

Let's get out there!

We resorted to a set of reins and a retractable dog lead for our wanderer in the end....we were exhausted from having to run around looking for him.

Be very careful of glowsticks in a toddlers room.  The contents can give some serious burns and they don't take much to bite through.  One of my children ended up with nasty blisters around their mouth when they got hold of one and they only had hold of it for a minute.
