I usually only have the odd sneeze and snuffle, would be gross exaggeration to call it hay fever.
Last Monday I thought I was developing a cold now realise after days of constant sneezing snuffles and itchy eyes I have proper hay fever.
Not amused especially as I am 50, didnt think hay fever struck that late in life, have plenty of other sensitivities but thought I had avoided that one.
Using Beconase and piriton, some relief but not enough! will try some of the other things mentioned here.

I used to have an injection about 8 years ago called kenalog and was totally hayfever free for a a number of years and it was bliss. Then i changed doctors and he was shocked that i had been on it for so long, so he stopped the injection. But have found as i have posted earlier piriton, beconese and eye drops and i am back to normal (or as normal as possible lol)
My rotten git of a GP refused to let me have the jab. The practice policy is that they don't do it: they regard hay fever as minor and short-lived (they obviously don't suffer themselves, and I have a dust allergy so suffer all year round!) and don't believe the benefits outweigh the risks (impaired immunity, altered adrenal fucntion and all sorts of other stuff).
I have never suffered from hay fever but my wife and step-daughter do. My wife is a research chemist so understands all the ingredients and she says there are only two different types of medication on sale (talking about tablets), as it happens Sainburys do both types in their own brand packaging for a lot less than the brand names. One of these types works so well for her that hay fever is no longer a problem, still works out at 50p a day though. Other things to try are:-
1/ local honey, the theory being that it will include the local pollen;
2/ nettle tablets (no idea how it works but lots of people swear by it.
Re posting this because there are some very helpfull remedies, and this being the hayfever season and holidays too ime sure it will help people who missed it the first time around.
I seem to have developed hay fever/dust alergies over the last 2 years, ive been taking piriteze for the last week and it seems to be working! I forgot it today and have been suffering with sneezes and itchy eyes all day! Will also try the vitamin c as suggested!
Beclametasone nasal spray (Beconase is the trade name but get a generic one and it's cheaper but exactly the same drug), and Sodium Chromoglycate eye drops (again, that's the generic name)
Use these all through the season even when symptom free and never, never, never rub your eyes. The only time I rub my eyes during the hayfever season is when I take my make-up off and then I only rub them very gently and only after I've put some precautionary eye drops in
