Im off for the w/end 6th of Aug.....Friends are taking my tent...to have it ready pitched for me when I arrive...I am under strict instructions to be as minimilistic as I can be packing wise...as we will be doing all the cooking etc in their van....All I need is my bed..sleeping bag...light...a heater...and my small duel fuel stove (for the early morning cuppa)......
Why then........exactly a week before I go....is my hall and bedroom strewn with all sorts of camping gear...gathered from the four corners of my (small) empire...(well actually the lock up)...Why am I picking over it all...like a crow over a roadkill?? I know what I need...I know what I dont need...and wont be taking...so why am I constantly raking through it(and falling over it) each day...........Maybe Im just having a wee play with it all...Maybe reassuring myself its all there...if at the last minute I decide to take a couple of wee extra items..........
Anyway...come the middle of next week I'll have decided (finally) what Im taking...and the rest will be returned to the lock up in an orderly fashion...A place for everything...and everything in its place....Or I might just chuck it in the lockup like I usually do........
Jelboy.
------------- Campers of the storm,Into this world are born
we've done the tripping over bags and stuff on the landing for the past three days...just having a sit down after having loaded it all succesfully in the trailer. Now all I need to do is some last minute ironing...cleaning...pack bits and bobs like phone chargers....and we'll be ready bright an early tomorrow morning ( after a week of preparation !! )
We're off to Dolbryn in Wales tomorrow and have so much stuff that we're taking 2 cars. This said though and not a thing is ready yet. There are bits in the loft and shed, clothes still in the washing machine, the Gerbils need a clean out before staying with the neighbours etc, etc. Yes, you've guessed it, i'm Mrs Unorganised
We've planned to leave tomorrow at 5am and it WILL happen! Want to know my secret? I have a very, very organised husband. He's at work at the mo but as soon as he gets back it won't take long to get ready. I love him sooooo much
hahaha Nicola , this sounds just like my story , i do "pack" but Garry comes home from work and "repacks" everything properly , hes very organised and manages to pack very effectively , tho he's said this year he wants to be able to see out the back of the car !!
Takes us around half an hour. All our gear is stored in it's various packaging in the garage on shelves. Washbags are always pre-packed so it's just a case of grabbing them, sorting out clothes for the trip, load up the coolbox with ice packs, then throw it all in the car and we're off! Stop off at a supermarket for food on route and we're done.
All our gear is packed neatly in the shed and in order!! We have our way of packing the car as not much room so when we finish camping and unload its put away first to last if you see what I mean so its so easy to pack the car next time. Takes max 20mins to load camping gear which OH does while I throw some cloths in a bag with toiletries. We could be off within the hour. Deciding to go and packing easy. Time to find a site and ring up to book and read reviews and check the weather that's where spontanious loses...

I think the 'throw the gear in the car and off you go' is one of those camping myths, when the reality is you can only do that if you're between the ages of 17 and 19 and intend to use alcohol as your only form of nourishment.
So yesterday i put all gear in some collapsable crates and stored them under bed and put a cardboard box on end of kitchen unit so i can add some food and drink to it over next couple of weeks.
Just need to put tent and table and any other big stuff under bed too x
my stuff is all in the lounge (no storage in my house ) lol so when i get home after a camping trip i replace what has been used wash the crocks properly.then i write the food list ready for the next trip dry the tent if wet put it back in back in lounge ready to roll again. so alongs as food packed and a hodall of clothes i am ready on my own if the kids and her in doors want to come along then bags packed the night before all in all 30 mins on own 2 hours with OH and kids lol

Realistically I like to prepare meals beforehand so cooking is just a case of reheating, plus I like to have enough frozen packs for the cooler, which means getting ready starts a couple of days earlier.
I would say about six months, one of the reason why we only go once a year!, although this last trip took a bit longer, at around 9 months, although I would draw the line at a year, I would not have it any other way, took 3 weeks of work for our June/July camping trip to France, we were away for 18 days, brilliant.
