He was about half the length of a ballpoint pen, and quite hefty. He landed on my coffee-cup and had some quality time with us before hopping off about his buggy business. We thought the martians had landed, but I had to get a photo of him!

I never did manage to identify him. Not a grasshopper, for sure; too big for that, and had different legs and head. And he seemed to have wings, as he took off with a buzz and we didn't see him land anywhere nearby. Yet he looked just like a really big beetle. A very fine beast indeed!
