Just back for Norfolk (Clippesby) yesterday night - abandoned early following Sunday night's storm and rotten weather for the last 4 days of our holiday. N'theless, got some beach days in during the first 11 days.

Well you must have had different weather to me then over the last few days as I was camping not that far from Clippesby and it was lovely till Sunday night. Sunday during the day I was on the beach at Horsey in hot sunshine, Saturday I travelled round various villages on the Broads taking lovely sunny photos, Friday I was in the sun in Southwold and Thursday was a lovely day in Cromer. It was the beginning of the week that wasn't too clever for me, although it was mainly just grey and overcast.

I take it you were staying at Clippesby Hall? I have some friends who live just down the lane from there and I called to see them on my way back from Horsey on Sunday afternoon. The sun was so hot through their conservatory window I had to move into the shade!

I've just come home to Norfolk after spending a couple of days in Welland beside the Malverns.

Apparently we endured 63mm of rain last night.  All I know, it was very noisy and cold whilst it slung it down.

Never heard rain like it, not even during monsoon in the Maldives!!

Meant to say "forecast for the last 4 days of our holiday". The first 11 days could be roughly split 50/50 rain/overcast and sun.

Just got back from Clippesby Hall - apart from this morning it rained near non stop from Tuesday - the walk to the toilet started to look like a bad glastonbury festival - lovely site though

We were in Cromer from 14th to 21st, bit windy Sunday night / Monday morning - BBC showed no bad weather, but Shipping Forecast said a Force 8 for Thames and Force 7 for Humber - seems about right from what I remember.

Wind picked up again on Thursday night / Friday, unfortunately it was from opposite direction to original so was hitting the canopy rather than back of our tent.

Glad we got a tent with steel poles as we saw at least 1 tent colapsed.

Apart from that, we got a sun tan and the carnival was great, I think we will be going back to Cromer next year.

We've just got back from Clippesby Hall and just about survived the torrential rain which went on for about 30 hours!!  Never known anything like it!!  Luckily we did have a nice couple of days before we left and we mostly dried out for packing away.  This was my first camping holiday in the last 3 years (and we have camped quite a few times) where I really wanted at one point to give it up and go home but now we are packed away for this year can't wait to plan where to go next year!!

We've just returned from Manor Farm in Cromer, had some terrible weather and wind. Our last night saw loads of tents evacuating and/or being destroyed There were lots of gazebos pitched up there, most of which were destroyed, they look so dangerous though, I was worried one might blow into our tent and rip it!

I have never visited Norfolk before and even after the weather I liked it and want to return!

You liked it so much you posted twice! lol

Norfolk is fabulous when the weather is good, and has many great opportunities for some beautiful photographs. I got some fantastic shots when I was there in May/June, and although the weather was a bit hit and miss at the start of my most recent break it came good in the end and I got some great pics. I'd actually taken my laptop with me and was going to post a daily blog on here with a few pics but the wretched thing was playing up on me so I couldn't. Maybe I'll do it now I'm back home for a while.

Jonah,

I've just got back from 5 days in Cromer from Wednesday 18th to Sunday 22nd and despite awful forecasts I've come away with a fantastic tan and the whole family had a great time.

If it is windy there are some sensible steps you can take. If you are not in a pre booked pitch, choose your location carefully. Avoid open spaces and look out for any flags to show you where the wind is blowing. If you need help holding onto your tent as you try and put it up, dont be afraid to ask any neighbours who dont look too busy themselves. Put the tail end of tent into the wind, not your canopy as I saw a few times recently. Make sure your tent and guy lines are all secured well, adding extra guy lines, if you have any, on any sides that might be under strain. If things get really windy a well paced car can act as a good windbreak.

It also pays to prepare a little for rainy days.

My list included going to the cinema in Cromer to see toy story 3, Splash leisure pool in Sheringham, Dinosaur Adventure Park near Norwich, Bewilderwood Outdoor adventure park

Above all else don't allow weather forecast's to get you down.

Hi camdm, thanks so much for the above, it's such a shame I never managed to see it before we went away!  We got back last night, and I have to say we had a right mixed bag of weather.  Wed night torrential rain, but after that a mix of sun and showers until sunday.  We had a look at the sea sunday evening, oh my god it was spectacular watching the waves crashing against the pier!  I didn't sleep too well, but the Dandy and motorhome awning stood up to it all very well.  I only know of one tent on our site coming down, luckily they were with friends who took them in.  The last two days were beautiful, and we had a wonderful day at Bewilderwood.  It made the bad weather days a distant memory.

got back from clippesby yesterday, sat ok ish but sunday night well alittle bit stormy lol. we had no trouble not a flap (never doubted it for a minute james n suzie!) but after speaking to others there were more than afew causalities (tents) and several had to go home in the middle of the night with tent in the bin. one guy had his poles sanpped and hed went into the woods (in the dead of night) and found some sticks and taped them to his poles and slept through the rest of the night. lol resourceful bunch us campers.

then from minday to friday it was lovely and we had a grea time.

clippesby: son enjoyed, me not so much. won't be going again won't bore you with details will get round to putting a review sometime this week.
