Well done Valbarley getting all that gear into your Ka.Have you ever thought of getting a job with The Great Suprendo?

I don't want to be a kill-joy,and I know camping kit is light weight these days, but, everone shoud read their manufacturers guide book as to the maximum permitted weight for the vehicle as overloading is an offence, and eventhough it is unlikely, should you get stopped and weighed, just like a goods vehicle,if you exceed gross vehicle weight or your vehicles axle weights, you will be prosecuted. Also, you should check on the roof load capacity that they recommend which can be carried safely.

Guess What,Guilty As Charged on most camping trips, just like everyone else I know.

We just be VERY careful in what we buy for camping. I use the fold'n'go for shorter trips and the coleman unleaded for longer trips. Smaller to pack and no big gas bottle to carry. We try and use things that will fold completely flat too and we are in the fortunate position that our car boot has loads of little compartments and can hold our plates, cups and kitchen stuff.   The coolbox is used to keep things in too. As for the roofbox, we only put lightwieght bulky things like the sleeping bags and things like that in it, and possibly clothes too if we can this year.

The one thing to remember is safety. If you pack the car to the rafters (and lets face it most of us do), just be careful that you dont get pulled over by the boys in blue.

When i have packed my car up for the next trip, ill have to take images, as i have been able to load the cr with everything, and not have to fold down the rear seats or place anything on the parcel shelf, think that has gone out the window this year though.... but I will see what i can manage,

Cool Box (Full of Beer and Ice)
Laterns and Tourches
Cooking and eating stuff
Two adults with clothes.

I must admit, every time we go I dont think it will all fit, but it always does. And when packing up to leave, I get a audience of campers who dont belive I can it all in :)

I think you should  video it and put it on u tube make good viewing

I had another thread about this, but it seems appropriate, here:

You can do roof boxes cheaper than you'd think. If you buy at Halfords, it will cost you about £300 to get a decent box. But, you can buy bars online for maybe £50 (less if your car already has rails on top). And, roof boxes are the sort of thing that people will buy, realize they never use, and sell on Gumtree. You can do a roofbox for maybe £100 if you work at it a bit.

Ooohh, am loving the plastic drawer idea.... but, do you put them in the car ready made up? Not sure where they'd go in our Astra, I usually put plastic boxes on the back seat full of bits and pieces like kitchen stuff, etc. But we do need things like wardrobes and stuff for this year as this will be our first proper year of camping so if I can suss out the drawer thing, that would possibly be a better option than the wardrobe units (and probably cheaper too!).

Kathryn

Forget Halfords - try Roofbox.co.uk, half the price and brilliant service.

The plastic drawers go in the back of the car made up no problem. You can just see ours behind the front passenger seat in the photo above.

I have a Renualt Laguna (big Boot and small trailer) family of 4 + 1 dog, and now 1 granny addicted to camping coming too.

Still struggle for space, although sleeping bags are laid out on back seat, always have something or other on floor that we have to put our feet on, I take clothes in a suitcase and just use from suitcase. But might try the Plastic drawer idea.

It's a sense of achievement getting it all in, if we have a pit stop on way to campsite it's an ordeal to get us all back in comfy again.

All part of the camping experience and we always somehow manage.

Hi

Really enjoying this thread, my husbands left me and taken the car so my son has put me on his insurance so I can borrow his car to go camping, hes got a corsa so I was wondering how Id get every thing in there.

My first trip out will be easter and my youngest son is coming with me, we wont have a roof box but some really good ideas on here, ive just bought a outwell Carolina S  tent and my son will be in his pop up, so really trying to streamline everything else down.

Iv'e got a picnic rucksack that had a good size zipped bit on the back for bowls, mugs, chopping board ect.. all the kitchen stuff goes in there and its really easy to find stuff and dosn't take up a lot of room, but need to sort out a kitchen stand thats light and not to bulky, so keep the ideas coming as im going to need all the help I can get to get everything in there.

Happy camping

Fiona

I've been to Argos today and got some drawers and vac bags..... but I think maybe smaller vac bags might be better as I got the jumbo ones and I thought maybe if I can condense the stuff small enough to fit in the drawers that would help me more so am going to get some smaller ones - only problem is, they're currently out of stock! Thanks for the great ideas!
