Hi been camping this weekend, new to it all, this was our second time testing all equipment before our Europe tour on July. We went to Newmark caravan sight,(i think). Any way was very sunny, but the wind was like a monsoon, in the end we had an l shape tear to our tent, was put up in a static, didnt like sight all in all we learned and had an experience.

Hi. New to forum and first post.

We had very strong wind in Dyffryn (Mid Wales close to shell island) on Sunday night. I was awake at 2 am watching the built in ground sheet lifting 2 foot off the floor with 2 chairs, gas bottle and a bag of clothes on it !!!!!!!!!! Decided to lie across the door to steady it and it was lifting myself and the lilo. Have to say though that our Outwell nebraska xl came through with flying colours. My brothers Montana 6 suffered 2 broken poles, it was his first time camping and I think he hadn't pegged it out correctly. 2 other people on the site lost their tents.

I agree about the noise from the wind, I was trying to shout the wife who was in the bedroom next to me and she couldn't hear me.

We were at Clippesby Hall in Norfolk from Thursday afternoon til this morning. No probs at all with our Kampa Filey (with Deltas!) I think the site is fairly well protected though as it's surrounded by very tall pines, it was full all weekend so a lot of tents but I didn't see any with damage.

Returning to the Essex coast, the wind seemed far stronger here though so I think we were lucky.

Glad I took my heater (on all night!) & hot water bottles though!

Sam
We were at Clippesby too, and can second everything that Sam has said here. Walking along Gt Yarmouth seafront on Sunday afternoon was quite a challenge later in the day. Clippesby's tall trees did a lovely job of sheltering the tents and even sounded like waves on the shore as the branches swooshed back and forth. Our Coleman Mackenzie Cabin 6 did us proud and stood firm, leaving us to enjoy a great weekend.

We saw the weather report and decided against camping in Anglesey
I got back earlier from five days on Anglesey and boy was it windy! It was ok when I arrived on site last Thursday, only a bit of a breeze, but the wind got up that evening and there's been no let-up since. And I have to say my awning took everything that was thrown at it, even when it was detached from my van and standing on its own. Last night must have been the worst, though I didn't realise it at the time - it was only when I took the dogs for a walk on the beach before leaving to come home this afternoon that I saw that the promenade pavement and more than halfway across the road was absolutely covered in seaweed!

We spent 3 nights at Tattershall Lakes this weekend and it certainly was very gusty.

Despite all the wind our Vango Vista 800 held up well and the only damage was a split pole.

Wind aside it was a glorious weekend

We camped in Abersoch with family from Thurs through until Monday in our Vango Icarus 600. Sunshine was fantastic but we hardly slept due to the noise of the wind. We ended up leaving on the Sunday afternoon as we were just exhausted.

Tent was great and we even left the canopy on (Maybe that didn't help with the noise)

We are ready for camping later in the month.

We were at solway view, pitch 9, lovely site, windy when arrived, got tent up expected it to be windy due to site, sadly during the early evening the wind got decidly stronger, at 11.30pm the tent poles to our khyam ontario 8 snapped, about 8 in total, we got what we could from the tent and put in the car, needless to say so did we, we packed up saturday and went home, there was a tent next to us which had some damage, and a tent by the wall.. we did see the people on pitch 10 move, to a more sheltered pitch, although it did look as though they were being battered by the wind also. Being an open site with little shelter we were prepared for some wind, but what we experienced was a lot more frightening, especially where the kids were concerned, we will however return at a later date, and give it another whirl.

I might not have pegged it out correctly, but you was advising me on how to!! Don't forget, your pole pulled apart and all your guy ropes on one side pulled pegs out of the ground!! And who pegged yours?? Not me!

Would've been interesting to have seen an airbeam last weekend and see if it coped any better than "normal" tents

We were near Weymouth in our Kampa Bude 4 with forecasted gusts in the 30s and the tent didn't move at all, although the noise of the trees getting a hammering woke me up a few times on 2 nights. But then we know the site and watched the wind direction in the short and long term weather forecasts and pitched accordingly -- backing onto a disused railway embankment topped by several rows of tall trees, which provided almost complete shelter. We were the only tent on the site though...plenty of caravans.

Wilkos fleecy mattress covers and Eurohike Adventurer 300 sleeping bags and we were cosy on our airbeds, although we kept the vents open and the top of the inner tent doors for ventilation. Didn't even bother with the hotwater bottles, only PJs.

We choose sites for their shelter generally, even when using the large steel poled tent...

we camped in our bude 4 too admittedly in a sheltered location but barely noticed wind
