We have just got home from a weekend of torrential rain and gale force winds on the cliffs at Reighton Sands near Scarborough, and it was probably the best camping weekend we have ever had!  We were hoping for a bit of rain to test out our new tent .... got more than we had bargained for!!

I think camping in the rain and wind is so much better if you have a tent that can cope with those conditions.  We had a lightweight tent from Tesco previously, with a HH of just 1500, and the design of it without the sewn in groundsheet was such that when it rained, the inner bedroom pods touched the outer material and not only that, the bedroom pod that  touched the outer material was just a mesh material.  Therefore with a bit of rain, all of the water dripped directly into the bedroom and ruined the bedding. 

This weekend's camping trip was with the Vango Maritsa 700, and the camping experience was just worlds apart!   Camping in the wind and rain was fabulous, and in my opinion having the right tent for you makes all the difference.

[p.s well done to the poster above for purchasing your tent with money saved from packing in the fags!!  That is sort of how I got my tent too, I had bought a static caravan with my money from packing in the cigs nearly 11 years ago and have just sold it, the proceeds of which went towards our new tent   :-))   ]

i wouldnt not go because of the weather, we are camped for cornwall in august now i already know its going one of two ways either beautiful and glorious or rubbish and rainy with storms, i dont care about the weather my kids love the rain and i couldnt think of anything more blissful than sitting in my porch of my tent with a glass of wine and watching and listening to the rain its like pure heaven too me.

i dont like storms but i would not pack up and go home unless we had no tent to sleep in better off inside the tent worrying than outside tring to hold it down whilst you pack it away, like many of you i just wish and hope for no rain the day we come home and i have been known to come home the night before we are due to leave just so i can pack my tent away dry.
