following on the site that we are now on we came to last year when we was hit by a storm. It was quite worrying at the time thought the tent might snuff it but stood up to it after a few double and triple peggings. Decided to invest in rock pegs this year though

If you wait for a decent weather forecast, you'd never go camping!

Yup I agree with that !

if it rains it rains. You just gotta make the best of it

Depends how long I go for .. If its Witsun then usually we live with the weather.  However if its our 2 week holiday, we have in the past cut short our holiday because of the bad weather, it started raining the day after we got there and we lived with it for a couple of days, until we saw the weather forecast for the coming week, it said the next day the rain was going to stop but then this big cloud was coming in from the south - OH said thats it we're packing up tomorrow and going home.  It was a good call as I believe the weather was very, very windy and wet in the southwest region and I think I read here at the time that some of you who weathered the storms came away with damaged tents etc.  The site we go on is a CC site who refund you if you have go home early for any reason including bad weather!

We have never cut a trip short because of the weather, although once in the Peak District it rained for 4 days solid and it was chilly too. Everything in the tent just had that slightly damp feel and all our walking gear got wetter and wetter, no chance of drying anything out. I must admit its the only time when we have considered giving up but we stuck it out in the end.

When we first started camping with the kids we only went if the forecast was good - so we hardly ever went away! Now we make plans and go - frost and strong winds are the only thing that stops us.

Having said all that its really grim today, very breezy and chucking it down. Quite glad to be in my nice warm house at the moment!

so far every single trip we have had has involved rain.
beginners luck maybe

I dont think we would cancel a 'proper' holiday because of the forecast as this holiday will be booked and paid for in advance.

At the moment for us each time away is a learning curve,eg our disaster camp when we slept in the car in June because of the really bad wind. we learnt how we did so many things wrong and learnt a lesson from it.

We have just got home from a weekend of torrential rain and gale force winds on the cliffs at Reighton Sands near Scarborough, and it was probably the best camping weekend we have ever had!  We were hoping for a bit of rain to test out our new tent .... got more than we had bargained for!!

I think camping in the rain and wind is so much better if you have a tent that can cope with those conditions.  We had a lightweight tent from Tesco previously, with a HH of just 1500, and the design of it without the sewn in groundsheet was such that when it rained, the inner bedroom pods touched the outer material and not only that, the bedroom pod that  touched the outer material was just a mesh material.  Therefore with a bit of rain, all of the water dripped directly into the bedroom and ruined the bedding.

This weekend's camping trip was with the Vango Maritsa 700, and the camping experience was just worlds apart!   Camping in the wind and rain was fabulous, and in my opinion having the right tent for you makes all the difference.

[p.s well done to the poster above for purchasing your tent with money saved from packing in the fags!!  That is sort of how I got my tent too, I had bought a static caravan with my money from packing in the cigs nearly 11 years ago and have just sold it, the proceeds of which went towards our new tent   :-))   ]

i wouldnt not go because of the weather, we are camped for cornwall in august now i already know its going one of two ways either beautiful and glorious or rubbish and rainy with storms, i dont care about the weather my kids love the rain and i couldnt think of anything more blissful than sitting in my porch of my tent with a glass of wine and watching and listening to the rain its like pure heaven too me.

i dont like storms but i would not pack up and go home unless we had no tent to sleep in better off inside the tent worrying than outside tring to hold it down whilst you pack it away, like many of you i just wish and hope for no rain the day we come home and i have been known to come home the night before we are due to leave just so i can pack my tent away dry.
