I vaguely remember someone mentioning on here that someone once turned up with tumble dryer and a deep fat fryer for their tent.

Cool campers use Delta Pegs.

Lovely stuff, all of it. Creative, quirky and GSOH.

I'm off to buy a gnome... wish I'd had it to sit beside the - almost - garden pond we had on holiday!

Where we've just been, a couple there had two tubs filled with bedding plants and some gnomes - they weren't just there for the weekend tho

A penguin.
Just a little one (out of my 800), called Olfine, she travels everywhere with me, and the worst thing is I forgot her this time when we went for our three weeks in England, so when I (after having been there with Olfine in 1997 and 1998) was at the Roman Bath ruins at Ravenglass in the Lake District, for the first time it was not Olfine sitting in the niche, but Og the Frog.

Og the Frog (belonging to my oldest daughter) was smuggled in the trunk, because she at 11 feels a bit embarrassed about showing him in public. Well, I made her at the Roman Bath ruins!
It's worse with all those illegal pets being smuggled back to Denmark. My 8 year old arrived in England with only Messi the Ape, but left the country with him plus Bamboo, Blueberry, Tangerine, Ian and a yet nameless donkey, because she wouldnt leave TESCO without rescueing some ugly toy each time, and our friends we visited wanted to get rid of some of their grown-up children's stuff...
So while I feel that Olfine the Penguin is a necessity for camping life, I agree that you can overdo it. My car was already stuffed without the little (and big) fluffy friends!

Is that being overly optimistic.. or tongue extreeeemely firmly stuck in cheek for UK campers?

A few years ago, we went camping in Bath, my wife was 7months pregnant and the temperature was incredible, in fact we nearly went home because the heat was making my wife ill. So we went to B&Q to buy an aircon unit, sadly they didnt have one so we bought a few desk fans and she had to grin and bear it. But I can see the point in aircon (sometimes).

My uncle had an extending wooden dining table in the back of his (huge) van when we camped a couple of weekends ago, so we had our takeaway around it, there were 8 of us.

Talking of flags/windsocks, when we camped at our local campsite for the first time there was a caravan with different characters as flags, a scarecrow, a witch and a pirate.

A few years ago I watched in amazement as the people on the next pitch unloaded a roll of carpet and laid it in their frame tent.
I was gob smacked when she got a upright hoover out their van and started hoovering. To her credit she clean that carpet about 3 times a day, every day.
The tent and their kids were as immaculate, unlike the van which looked like Swiss cheese, and so much rust that only the paint was holding it together. Even the local travellers wouldn't have wanted it.

I think S2BX's insistence on bringing his infernal guitar on every holiday must be the worst. It was quite an expensive one, so a constant source of worry, took up loads of room and was utterly useless.

We always take our Intex 3 metre, steel pole above ground swimming pool, It makes other campers green with envy when they see us splashing around in it.  Takes a bit of time filling it up, but well worth it. We also take a 3 metre gazebo with side curtains, this fits over the pool nicely. handy for night time wee's to.

I'm sure it takes a bit of time filling it up, we can just about manage a bucket for night time wee's .
