Great in practice too! Seathwaite Farm is a reasonably safe place to leave a car overnight, the Corridor Route to Scafell Pike is one of the best ways up England's highest mountain, and both Styhead Tarn and Sprinkling Tarn are dersevedly popular spots to camp (mind you, they get crowded sometimes).

The walk up to Styhead from Seathwaite is (by mountain standards) fairly easy; you start with a gently rising section, then gain most of the height in a short but steep section, followed by another gentle slope up to the tarn and the pass. From there, it is not far on a rising gradient to Sprinkling Tarn.

You could leave a tent unattended in the high passes with the reasonable certainty it would not be interfered with. The sort of people who walk that far into the hills are not the sort who steal or vandalise by and large. That said, if it is a lightweight tent I'd strike camp and take everything with me - your plans could change.

The Corridor Route is more challenging in gradient compared to the walk up from Seathwaite Farm. The last haul up to Scafell Pike is quite arduous and is over very stony ground.

It has been well over a year since I updated this thread.

Regular readers of UKCS may recall my Pointless But Fun Challenge. The idea was to camp under canvas in as many English counties as I could in a year

My challenge started back in 2010. I'd originally hoped to camp in all of the historic counties in one year (ending in September 2011) but that proved too ambitious. However, as this thread and original thread show, I've kept ticking off counties and have now done a fair proportion of English counties.

This brief update is to record that I have now ticked Staffordshire off the 'to do' list. On the weekend of 29-30 June 2013 I camped for two nights at
Common End Farm campsite.

Not many left, no. I have yet to camp in Bedfordshire, Berkshire, Cheshire, Essex, Hampshire, Hertfordshire, Huntingdon, Kent, Lancashire, Leicestershire, Middlesex, Rutland, Suffolk, Surrey and Sussex

But as an aside on Lancashire, I just realised that I have camped at Coniston Copper Mines which is in the former exclave of Lancashire (it used to be known as Lancashire Detached).

Almost certainly not - I've no plans (nor reasons) to visit the 'missing' south-eastern counties.

Worcestershire
Herefordshire
Dorset
Somerset
Staffordshire

The rest are on our to do list.
